kaichita I thought Girl was a funny film adaptation of the book. The book, to me, was better because while reading it, I wasn't subjected to the horrible music in the movie. I like the storyline and the concept and the characters, but the songs that were performed in the film are AWFUL, making this a very bad film in general. If you can fast forward thru all the cheesy music, you'll enjoy this film a lot more. I liked the Portland-area setting but the movie was filmed in Los Angeles. I've seen this movie several times at around 4 in the morning on obscure movie channels. Dominique Swain is truly the star of this film and her parents are also incredibly funny. Tara Reid does a good acting job also, but Selma Blair just can't act. Period.
radicalcowboy I thought the story line of the movie was OK. I agree the storyline was a bit trite; The way Andrea appears to "outgrow" TOdd at the end and just leaves him I thought was a bit overdone. It makes Andrea a pretty shallow character. I thought the best character was the Tara Reid character. I saw how she could stretch herself a little her when comparing the character she played in American Pie. The underlying theme that each of the characters lived such vastly different lives and yet orbited each other as friends in the same universe was the best part of the film....however I thought the soundtrack was excellent, excellent. I think that is what saved the movie. ANybody know if there is a soundtrack available for this?
maryhotchika I think this movie is a wonderful one. I just love Sean Patrick Flannery. I think he looks his best in this movie. I liked him as a rocker u know. Does anyone know if that was really him singing. I just wish he wasn't that old, because i definitely would want to date him. He has this great personality in this movie. I wish i was an actress or at least be able to meet him. I think he would be a really awesome person to get to know. I think my favirote part of this movie is when they are at the woodstock kind of thing and he pulls her up on stage and then kisses her it was so sweet and i also liked his say ''everything will be alright'' Well i guess this wraps it up. I guess i'm extremely one of Sean Patrick Flannery's fan.
laura-339 Do yourself a favor and read the book before you try to watch this movie. After watching it I felt like they tried to turn this incredible and moving work of fiction into an episode of My So-Called Life. The book this screenplay is loosely based on is so much more powerful than this bland film version. The main character was heinously miscast, she brings no depth to the role whatsoever. You end up being annoyed by her, instead of identifying with her in any meaningful way. And you never find out enough about the supporting cast to understand what's going on with them. In my opinion the entire point of the novel was completely missed. I was terribly disappointed.
