ivana-ivankovic The movie is real and not afraid to touch on some very disturbing themes like family abuse, alcoholism and second chances. Although at moments it becomes predictable, it is not sugar coated, characters are full of shortcomings, but likable. By the end, you want them to succeed and get a new chance in life. Production and cast is more like TV movie, but you will get your hour and a half of ups and downs and some happy endings.Perfect portrait of life in small American mid West town and why some strive to get away as fast as possible and some find they true happiness in a place they were born and raised. Not really a family movie.
Ralph Arendse Home Run hits home… For two years of my life I fell victim to substance abuse, although I'm 7 years clean the struggle continues. Watching this incredible movie brings back so many memories, good & bad.My best part of the movie is when Cory is listening to Karen's testimony in church. That scene is so powerful, it teaches us not to judge the next person until you know their struggles or their life story. Although the movie is just under 2 hours, its 2 hours well spent!! Home Run is right up there with Fireproof, Midnight Clear & Hidden Secrets... "Another Good Christian Movie". Absolutely brilliant & uplifting movie, the acting is top notch and I highly recommend this movie…9/10
Jennifer Johansen My husband and I first saw this movie at a one day seminar for Celebrate Recovery and to watch a Christ centered movie in a room full of people who love the Lord was AMAZING! SPOILER ALERT: When Cory was struggling with his drinking and finally had a break through that was both funny and uplifting the room was all in applause!! We saw the Movie again on opening weekend to support Christian films we brought our entire Celebrate Recovery group and it was amazing to see it a second time. The big shockers that tore my heart previously; I already knew were going to happen so I got to see the underline story, the subtle struggles and stories that are in between the lines.People who could relate to this movie:*People who dealt with high standards ether in sports or academically could really relate with the pressure he felt. *People with alcoholic or drug addict parents could relate with being scared all the time, the need to protect your siblings... not want to grow up like your parents, but when you do its just so hard to change that legacy. *People that ran from a relationship and possibly a child due to their fear; that fear that you were not good enough because that is what your parents said or how they made you feel. *People who may be in an addiction that wants to change, but with God it is just too hard. It's work! *A Widow dealing with that loss. *A mother keeping a secret from her child who their father is. *A family member watching their family member struggling and feeling helpless. This movie could be for any age I believe. My kids are 6 and 10 and I wouldn't mind them seeing it. Yes there is drinking, but they do not glorify it. And they are able to see the outcome. That when you are struggling, you never have to do it alone. There are groups; especially Celebrate Recovery; and people that are there for you to set you on the right path. The path to God.
critic_w Home Run is a very good and very simple story; more main-stream than Facing the Giants, Fireproof, or even Courageous. It chronicles the career of a major-league baseball player whose excesses get the best of him. We watch and enjoy the repair of his life and the lives of those around him. Due to it's simplicity and perhaps audience apathy towards this genre, Home Run will likely prove to be one of the most underrated films in a long time. It is of a recent slate of Christian message movies, and carries a certain pro-Celebrate Recovery message... but to summarize it as only that would do this movie and potential viewers a tremendous disservice. Get out and see it, or at least get the DVD! It is well directed, very well produced, and has the best acting of any movie in this group. On par anything out of Hollywood.
