Mikelikesnotlikes What a fantastic film. One that I will be watching again someday as I think I'll get even more from it with a second viewing. I love the depth of this world, the story and its characters. The greatly detailed backgrounds are flawless and every part of the film; even the switches to animation or foreign languages; do not wrench you from this immersive experience.Do feel free to watch this film while utterly relaxed (have a few beers) and let it wash over you. It is an incredibly detailed piece of art that can either be dissected for its message or just enjoyed for its visual beauty.Suspend your disbelief and invest some of your time on this fantasy train.
PanchoTaffy Read some decent things about this movie and thought I would give it a go. I am probably no more the wise for watching it as to be quite honest I was kind of left asking myself "what the hell was all that about?". Anyway, it doesn't matter. Just watch it for the decent enough attempt at making a sci fi movie which does not follow any of the old plots laid out by so many. That is one good thing about this film, it is definitely original. So original I didn't have a clue what was going on most of the time. The acting is OK, nothing special. The CGI is a bit hit and miss, sometimes it can look amazing and flawless, then you get some character who's face looks like it was made on an old ZX81. Would I watch it again? Nah, not worth it, once you have seen it that's enough really.
accendant This movie was a complete surprise. Never thought I would call Scifi beautiful but this movie deserves the praise. The movie conjures a very unique feeling of authenticity and awe or reverence which I didn't think could be done with film. I think this is due to the pace of the movie which is reminiscent of a dream, and the atmospheric music (awesome unobtrusive and emotive). Similar feel to watching and listening to Dr Manhatten from the watchmen. No surprise there considering they are apparently both derived from graphic novels. What surprised me was you gained this strong feeling about the movie but don't really know why. The setting and story were solid to the point of jumping past that point of disbelief into the world of believing. The characters were all convincing. Spoilers:The scene in the bar when the blood splattered god walks in and and has a conversation about body parts and peers menacing at the guy sitting at the bar evokes a feel of violence and psychopathy, something I have never experienced before in any movie.I can only hope the public start wanting more movies like this which have a heart and soul. If you like Scifi you will love this. You may have even forgotten the feelings you had when you read the scifi books of your youth. This film will remind you.Hats off for bringing Scifi Movies to a a new level...bows
sianlover I enjoy most SF and fantasy fare, and am always happy to make allowances for rough edges and failings where a film seems to deserve such indulgence. However, it would be unnecessarily generous to imply that Immortel ad Vitam is anything other than rubbish. It's overblown and tedious and it offers nothing that you have not seen done better in countless other films. Anyone who is familiar with the works of Philip K Dick, Frank Herbert and Roger Zelazny will see just how much shameless ripping-off is going on here, and (my only real complaint about this) how badly such material is being wasted. The same could be said of the excellent Charlotte Rampling.
