iulya_mihet Coming from Europe, I always expect big budget American movies to be authentic and original and they never are (even the best ones, that are critically acclaimed). So I was really pleasantly surprised by this indie movie, as it finally presents a slice of American life in an authentic and tragicomic manner. The movie has 3 main themes: the struggle of wannabe writers/actors in LA; the struggle to find love or simply somebody to chase loneliness away and the hope attached to starting anew (the events are all taking place during New Years Eve).The movie is filmed in black and white, maybe with the intention to recreate the atmosphere of the Golden Era movies (there are some references to their faded glory along the way). I liked how the movie managed to combine meditations on love and romantic relationships with bits of ordinary life. Also, how the story line was not lacking funny moments, excitement or sadness. I wished sometimes that some scenes were cut short, as the pace was a bit slow, but that is a minor criticism. This movie is a nice reminder that life is not what we see in big budget movies, but it's what me and you live every day, and that is wonderful and full of emotion.

adi_2002 Wilson, a man almost thirty years is alone on the night of the New Year. He has fantasies with Min, girlfriend of Jacob. It recommended that he put an ad on a popular dating site and is contacted by Vivian, a rebellious girl, strict and that seems to want to do everything in a very big hurry. After they met between the two occur events which reveals that they could match but not before he take her out to dinner in a fancy restaurant and being put in a position to talk to her former boyfriend from witch receives threats and so he have to rush to help her go home to recover some things before Jack comes and gives them fire. Did this for then to go to the party where his friend Jacob will propose marriage to Min. Things take a strange turn when she jumps on him to kiss but he then rejects her. He tells Vivian what happened but it does not upset because both understand the situation and what they wanted exactly happens will not be alone New Year's Eve and eventually Wilson finds what he wanted, the most desired midnight kiss. Although the action takes place in December, in the winter, I have not seen even a snowflake not an inch of snow on the streets and do not know why it was filmed in black and white. Maybe it was hiding the fact that the outside was another season? Anyway a good movie about love differently than others seen so far from where we can learn something because it can happen in real life.

bondboy422 'In Search of A Midnight Kiss' directed by Alex Holdridge mines a different track in the genre of romantic comedy. It is lovely to look at with beautifully clear black and white photography with some romantic shots of couples kissing and then we meet Wilson trying to transfer Min's head on to a model's body on the net and we are certainly in uncharted territory.Scoot Mc Nairy's Wilson is not in a nice place to be on New Year's eve and is encouraged by Jacob (a nicely desperate though subtle performance by Brian McGuire) to advertise on a dating site.'Misanthrope seeks Misanthrope'- Her name is Vivian and she startles -- she is edgy and aggressive --Wilson and she go on a journey that is surprisingly romantic although never predictably so which as the layers are peeled off and the characters soften it becomes even more poignant and romantic!!!!Sara Simmonds as Vivian gives a performance beyond her years (I especially enjoyed her 'smile'for Wilson) and Scoot McNairy has some brilliant re-active acting to the outrageousness of the situation that his character finds himself in.It has dark moments and when the brighter situations arise they are more heightened -- the bunch of flowers from the bystander for Vivian-- This film is one of those classic romantic comedies like 'When Harry...'--always worth another look at!

alexo-8 For the first time in a movie, you'll see LA as is from the point of view of the common people, and You will most certainly see your own city. You'll see LA, just like any other place in the world and the bright white light during the day that completely annuls the magic the cities have by night. Just like you and me, the people in the story live their own lives, very common lives. They all follow their dreams, but up to a certain point. In everyone's life there has been a certain point in time where we had to choose either to pursue our dreams further or to accept what we have and stay with the one we love. Once you make a commitment and you are no longer on your own, you share your life with your partner, you'll find it even more difficult to make the carrier you dreamed of. As much as I can see, the story is based on events that follow a break-up (or shell I say 'during a break-up')... So, after a break-up of a long relationship, one finds himself in front of a crossroad, not knowing which way to go. Most of us will spend some time trying to get back, but usually that's not an option. Sooner you realize you are on the tracks of getting your life back, better it is... Anyway, the characters in the film seem to have found one another going through a similar faze in life, and obviously fell in love with each other. Unfortunately, you'll see, it is not possible for them to stay together, as, they both have their own lives to go back to. The time these two characters spent together, during their break-ups with their regular partners, reminds us of all the crazy things we can do when we're single, and shows how little inhibits us from living a normal life and having fun. In fact, the events that take place during the break-up are the ones worth making a movie.
