Entering Turkey on foot through a snowy, Kurdish-controlled pass, the pair again take their lives into their hands and face suffocation when they are locked in a freight container on a ship bound for Italy. Reno Rangan Based on the true story of two young Afghan refugees and their journey towards a best place on the earth for their better future. This, documentary style adventure- drama of a British movie about illegal migrants from various refugee camps from middle-east chronicles as theirs lifetime voyage begins. From the director of Angelina Jolie starer 'A Mighty Heart', once more time he portrayed the people of middle-east who wants to escape from their poverty. He managed to extract the best from the non-professional actors and made it a one of a best movie of all time about illegal human migration.Jamal and Enayat are two Afghan refugees from the camp located on the Pakistan border. The Enayat's father decides to send him to London from his war torn country. Jamal joins him as their voyage to modern world commence. During their journey they have to cross many countries between two continents to reach their destination. They meet other people like them who traveling different directions seeking a fresh life to begin. With all the hurdles would they reach their destination or not is the remaining tale to explode. We have heard many stories like this but this movie gives you a real experience with almost the realistic images in front of you. The only minus point which I hated the movie in the initial stage due to the slaughtering scene. Since I saw this movie I could not erase those images from my mind. It was very cruel, so it is not suitable for kids and adults who love animals. But the rest of the movie is indubitable. Like the French movie 'Welcome' about a boy who want to cross the English channel, this movie briefs longest journey within 90 minutes with a fine pace. This is a good example movie about after effects of war where innocents only suffer more than between two fighters.
tomswr Every westerner ought to watch this movie. It is an extremely well done and very troubling movie that shows a part of the world that we are intimately involved in, but know very little about. Had I not known that the movie was based on a true story, I would have found it to be an unbelievable story. Our Middle Eastern policy is not working and this movie shows what happens on a personal, individual level as a result. At the same time it shows the human spirit and the desire that every person has to have a better life. What Jamal goes through to find his better life is truly amazing and probably not over yet. The movie works on a number of different levels.
Tilly Gokbudak "In This World" is yet another exceptional film from Michael Winterbottom, who seems to be one of the best directors from the UK these days. I really liked his film before this "24 Hour Party People" and once again he has done a masterful job of combining elements of documentary into a feature films. From the outset, it is pointed out that lots more 'muhla' went into bombing Afghanistan than providing refugees with any assistance. This was filmed in Pakistan, Iran, Turkey and parts of Western Europe. One of the more touching moments comes when the lead characters meet up with an Iranian (I presume ethnic Kurds) family as they enter Southeast Turkey from Iran. A very touching film. It is certainly more vivid an disturbing than most road movies, whether you are talking about "Stagecoach" or even "Thelma and Louise"- this is gripping stuff indeed, and a good companion to the recent Afghan film "Osama."
cyrilvanschooten A warm and inspiring document of the troubles so many on our planet have to overcome to try to make a living somewhere else on our globe, far away from home. Should be dedicated to all refugees out there, including those who paid their courage to be free with the ultimate penalty in life. The sometimes poor acting doesn't harm this film at all, it rather adds to the authenticity of the movie to make it able to experience it as a semi-documentary rather than as drama. For a small budget movie as this film must be (almost shot entirely on hand-held), the landscape sceneries are breathtaking and the director wisely let these images steal the show. It didn't take any effort at all to identify myself with the two main characters of this film, though our lives cannot differ more from each other. Without adressing the European refugee-lawmakers one single time, the (semi-)reality make them look ugly anyway.
