jviramontez This has become one of my all time favorite movies... great costumes, excellent CG, fantastic story, and a powerful cast...This is a must see!
MattyAndAnnika Jack the Giant Slayer is a nice film based on the Jack and the Beanstalk story. This movie is fairly put together with your basic comedy and adventure for the youth, all and all a decent family film. For the most part the graphics were good, the acting was fair for the cast which was selected and of course what script was provided to make a story. For the biggest part of the film which caught my attention the most was size proportions. In many instances when the giants and the humans were up close the size proportions varied a lot. The biggest example is where the giants first appeared in the movie with Jack, Jack was the size of the giant's foot, and in others he was the size of their leg, and again in other instances Jack was the size of their heads. Now other than proportions the film is fairly one point with the graphics and artistry. To best describe the acting styling within Jack the Giant Slayer is to simply think of "Robin Hood: Men in tights".One thing I did like about this movie is it's innuendo of mankind's response in a tragedy. In Jack the giant Slayer while the king and the rest of the king's people are are the ground level awaiting the return of the princess, the whole are turned into a fairground; sounds like man's reality huh? lmao yes, this is the typical thing for humans to do when tragedy strikes is to see who can profit the most.
skanz The princess wants adventure, but is very much a pawn in the film. Constantly being rescued from bullies, the rain, the cooking pot, the beanstalk, the giant, and then her controlling father. Every film doesn't have to be feminist, but I mean, is she nothing more than 'the prize'? I know it was just fairytale fun but each little bit helps to further the myth that women need male protection. Especially protection provided by a clod like Jack. Jack, though very brave was more than a little dim, in this version he went to market to sell a perfectly good horse and a cart for some thatch to mend the leaky roof. Thatch. Jack is a farmer. Sell the horse and cart to buy some thatch? it's like a fisherman selling his fishing boat to buy a sardine. He proved handy with his sword though, and that's all that matters in the end.
David Arnold Jack, a mere farm boy, has been raised by his uncle after his father died when he was young. After travelling to market to sell one of their horses, Jack unwittingly ends up rescuing Princess Isabelle during an incident. Later on, Jack is then given what looks to be regular beans by a monk for safe keeping, but is told they are in fact ancient magical relics. Out during a stormy night, Isabelle seeks refuge at Jack's but after one of the beans ends up getting wet, his house (along with Isabelle) ends up at the top of a massive beanstalk. Jack now finds himself on a mission to help rescue Isabelle from a land of giants that he thought was only a myth.As we all know, Jack The Giant Slayer is a movie adaptation of the classic Jack and the Beanstalk fairytale but this fairytale isn't for kiddies. The PG-13 rating does it justice too because a lot of the scenes involving the giants are pretty intense and the fight scenes are quite violent. This is a "grown-up" version of the story, and it's a very enjoyable one at that. The scale of this film is HUGE and when watching it you can definitely see where the $195m budget went. The visual effects are nothing short of amazing and this film is absolutely full of eye candy. The way everything was done, from the growing of the beanstalk to the minute details of the giants, was really impressive. The giants were done big, they were done nasty, and they were done mean and I'm glad they were done like this as anything less then it would have actually felt like you were watching a wee fairytale instead of a good action fantasy adventure film. The film cast done a really good job with their parts as well, especially those of Ewan McGregor and Ewan Bremner. I don't like Ian McShane, but even he done a decent job as the king. This film is actually as good as I was hoping it was and if you enjoy action fantasy adventures like Lord Of The Rings and The Hobbit then you will enjoy Jack The Giant Slayer.Excellent film.
