George Taylor Still one of the greatest movies of all time, this is totally enjoyable from it's opening scene to it's last. Be honest, who doesn't feel bad for Kong? What was he doing that was so terrible? The real villain in this movie is greedy Carl Denham. He couldn't be happy just shooting film of Kong, no he had to wrench the poor beast from the only home he'd ever known. The SFX, by the late, great Willis O'Brien still stand up today and this film is even decades later, still worth watching. Sheer brilliance, it should never be remade again.
gullwing592003 The depression 1930's saw some of the most innovative & groundbreaking movies that left audiences stunned & blown out of their minds. I can only imagine audiences being shocked out of their skulls at the first sight of King Kong in 1933. The arrival of sound & talkies were a new thing & just a few years earlier films like Dracula, Frankenstein, The Mummy, White Zombie, Island of Lost Souls & Mystery Of The Wax Museum had created a startling sensation to1930's audiences. And then came this earth shaking monster classic, it is a perfectly done masterpiece, the action & special effects & stop motion animation & storytelling & superb excellent cast & throbbing music score & direction & fast pacing makes this a winner in every aspect. It is exceedingly well done & still holds up today. Fay Wray, Robert Armstrong , Bruce Cabot & Noble Johnson are in top form & give standout performances. King Kong was well received in 1933 & is still watchable today I can't count how many times I've seen it. It's a film that can be viewed over & over. I have this on VHS & I've seen it on the big screen. This movie is so great it can impress a modern audience it's that good. Still packs a wallop after all these years & decades. It's unbeatable ! ! !
Julian R. White What can I say about the original 1933 King Kong? Well for one, it was one of the very first films to spark my interest in the classic giant monster movies that I enjoy today. in 1933, the film industry was doing pretty well, but the scenery in this film is one I hadn't seen an any other movie of its time. It was simply spectacular. The stop-motion action in the movie was well ahead of it's time as well, with exceptionally good movement rates, especially for such an older film. Although Fay Wray tends to scream for 90% of the film, you can get past that when you sit back to appreciate how much planning and money went into this film. I remember watching this movie as a child and just being totally amazed with the idea of an island home to prehistoric monsters and a giant gorilla, as well as hostile natives. What more could you ask for in a film about monsters? It remains one of my all time favorites even today.Film Fun Fact: It is said that this film was a favorite of Adolf Hitler.
unkadunk0801 As I'm writing this on 04/26/17 I'm watching the original King Kong(1933)which is in my opinion the best version of the story And what a great score by Max Steiner who really set the tone for the story And what a great cast headed by Faye Wray as Anne Darrow,Robert Armstrong as Carl Denham Bruce Cabot as Jack Driscoll Frank Reicher as The Skipper James Flavin as the first Mate ,Victor Wong as Charlie the cook Ed Brady as a crew member Noble Johnson as the Witch Doctor and the rest of the cast of unidentified stuntmen who did a great job in their roles as the crew and of course the scenes with King Kong and the T-Rex fighting and the other dinosaurs which for the time that the movie was made was truly spectacular to see.And lets not forget the magnificent production and direction by Merian Cooper &Ernest B Schoedsack and the mastery of the truly legendary Willis Obrien That helped make this one of the truly classic movies of all time. And I'm not ashamed to admit that every time I see it ,I still can feel tears rolling down my face Which proves that its still a true classic over the years .Thanks
