TheMarwood Unfortunately the directing gene was not passed down from John Huston to his daughter Anjelica Huston, who clearly has no idea what the hell she is doing and can't modulate Rosie O'Donnell's performance from reaching heights so over the top, it soars through the stratosphere. Hallmark films don't scream quality, but this scrapes some truly horrible depths. The film can never rise above Rosie O'Donnell, who belts out every line and seems to be channeling the worst stereotypes of mentally disabled people, that the film ends up feeling like a parody of the disabled. It's like she ate a handful of amphetamines before each scene and was let loose, never being told to bring it down about 50 notches and that she's making a fool of herself. The script is derivative nonsense, but it's her monstrous performance that makes the film worth viewing for condescending laughs - without Rosie O'Donnell this film would never have become the morbid curiosity it is.
ed-627 I think the current rating of "3.7" for this movie is way too high.Probably the worst movie I have ever seen, and thats really saying something.Do yourself a favor and give this movie a miss, unless of course you are a masochist and even then I doubt you will last the course.Listening to Rosie O'Donnell screeching for a few hours with absolutely no acting talent and probably an embarrassment to all around here... now surely everyone else had something better to do?Andie MacDowell really needs to forget this film... fastAbsolutely dreadful.
motivd_mischief You'd have to be completely heartless not to be moved by this film. The characters are deep and the plot simple so it's easy to stay involved in their story. If you're a sin city-type or violence crazed testosterone pumped numb-skull then don't expect to enjoy this-but then you wouldn't watch it would you! This has a tone on par with Ghost but admittedly not as good or heart-wrenching. Amongst other movies of its type involving the mentally disabled this movie is unique in emphasising not the weaknesses but the strength of Beth as she moves about her life despite having lost her father and carer. Her independence is founded in her routine and the knowledge of the people she knows through it. A light-hearted, heartwarming story with emphasis on the important things in life and how priorities change.
gaelgurl25 Honestly I don't know why people only watch a movie for certain actors and actresses, as there is so much more to a movie. This movie "Riding the Bus with my Sister" was a great film. I know people who are Mentally Handicapped, and sometimes they are loud and energetic, it's their way of living. I loved the fact that Rosie O'Donnell played in the film, as well as Andie MacDowell. They both made the film genuinely good. It was really easy to understand where the working photographer didn't have time for family and such, and the fact that she got "custody" of her sister brought them back together. I give the movie 10 stars for various reasons, 5 for the actors and actresses, 5 for the storyline. If you feel as if you wasted your time, then I don't know why you started watching it anyway. Evidently you have no heart for people other than yourself!
