Franki SPOILERS ALERT, M'KAY? The reviews for this movie are polarizing. I see people calling this the most offensive movie of all time, pure trash, etc, etc. I sat through Where the Dead Go to Die and Drawn Together: The Movie. I've pseudo-intellectual garbage at it's worst and shocking for the sake of shocking at it's most cringey. Seeing this film for the first time, I thought it would be along those lines. Then I sat down to watch the movie and, with the exception of one graphic sex scene and an over-the-top murder, it didn't make me sick to my stomach. The filmmakers are not pro Manson or anything, the film is so obviously a satire of the media and the legacy it's made out of Charles Manson. It's use of music, and the portrayal of the murder victims isn't done out of spite, but through the perspective of how the family would see the world. Still it's very offensive and I don't recommend for the squeamish and maybe the criminologists who take this stuff very seriously. That being said, it's no masterpiece of schlock or satire. Personally, I think what would make the satire sharper and clearer for general audiences is if the Tate murders were treated with more dignity. That would be a great reality check - something to show you how awful a home invasion/murder really is - and it would make the schlock all the schlockier once you get cut back to it. You know? Give the audience mood whiplash by going from dark comedy, to full on tragidrama, and then back into comedy like nothing ever happened? For smart viewers "Live Freaky Die Freaky"'s message isn't going to be lost, but I can't see those same people giving it a glowing review.
johnstonjames wow. Rankin and Bass this sure isn't. i'm sure Rudolph would retire and throw in the towel on holiday specials after viewing this. this would even disturb fans of the creepy 'Nightmare Before Christmas'. they probably wouldn't run around being so charmed and tickled by how dark Tim Burton can be if they saw this damnable piece of stop motion wickedness.personally i like this movie better than 'Nightmare Before Christmas'. i've always really enjoyed Tim Burton's sweet little stop motion dandy, but i've always felt that Burton's film was basically a aggrandized kiddie flick. but hey, i like kiddie flicks. they're funny. this film, however, is no kid flick and is basically retribution for adult baby boomers who pushed the whole "stop motion classic" thing in the first place. when i watch something like this i feel like it's pay back for watching all that stop motion stuff in the past. even though i love kid's entertainment and the nostalgia of my Innocent childhood, i relate very well and am comfortable being a adult and capable of dealing with cynicism or dark, harsh realities.there is definitely a lot of harsh, dark reality here. not only is this based on the exploits of the Charlie Manson "familiy" and the whole Sharon Tate crime, this film literally takes excerpts from the sayings and philosophies of Manson himself and followers like Susan Atkins. i've read about Charles Manson and he actually said the whole "machanical man" thing. maybe not to the far out extent of Armsrtong's tuneful ditty, but close enough for comfort.just because this is a cute little stop motion puppet film, and much of it is cute, puppets naturally are, don't be deceived. if a lot of this vicious and graphic little film were made with live actors it would be censored or banned. certainly the bloody sex orgies would. this film uses stop motion puppets as a way to defer the shocking content.i really liked this film. i thought it was creative and inventive a lot more "shockingly" original than Tim Burton. but then again, i'm really messed up and don't advocate that people do as i do. i even think that Billie Joe of 'Greenydaze' is one of those unfortunate rockers that the harder he tries to be meaner, the cuter he gets. i actually think his "machanical man" song is kind of cute sounding because it's so devious and mischievous. i think it's because BJ is so little and short. you know what they say, little man, big attitude. and attitude is definitely something this deranged little film isn't lacking.i know i'm warped. do you? i think this weird little flick has a healthy philosophy. when people become mundane and controlling with their quest for too much normalcy, you should "live freaky and die freaky". not bad advice when most of the advice you'll receive totally sucks. i'm not so sure it should always get this "freaky", but hey, what the heck. with all the controlling lies out there, why not? anything goes sometimes.
kirbyerinkatielex23 Live Freaky Die Freaky was the only movie with any truth in it that i have seen in my entire life! Charles "Hanson" actually carried a great message, and although i think the murders of Sharon "Hate" and the other couple where wrong..i still think the film was genius! Charlie's last speech actually made me think, whether he was "lying" or not. So watch this movie and think about it (i mean really think about it not just focus on whats too obscene)..and take a look around.Maybe you'll learn something about our world. The movie also had a sick sense of humor that just kept me wondering what John Roeckers problem was...and i loved it! At least someone has the guts to tell the whole world off. Don't listen to the haters, go see this movie!
Graham-joey I don't usually gripe about movies on IMDb, but this deserves the exception. This is a terrible film, with terrible animation and a terrible story with terrible characters and terrible singing and terrible everything. It's one thing to be presenting some sort of point of view, it's another to make the the worst tripe imaginable. It would seem to me this movie got major distribution because the people who saw it don't like good movies and kept telling other people it was really intelligent, and that if they didn't see it and think the same thing they were somehow stupider than this other group of people. And wow, the animation is so terrible and often boring. Someone should have let the animators know that clay can't act unless you make it act (and blinking doesn't count). Also, it claims to have a lot of punk rock sensibilities, but if you think Billy Joe Armstrong and Tim Armstrong have any punk rock left in them , you won't think so after this movie...If you are looking for something that looks funny, and think this is going to be it, you will be furious to find out this movie is not funny, despite what it thinks. After the first big scene, you will be bored for 70 minutes.
