Cat Mouse This movie describe some "love". Hiroko who lost her fiancé-Itsuki Fujii- goes to his parents' house. Then his mother shows his graduation album for Hiroko. She finds out old address about Itsuki. She jot it, and send a letter for there in jest. One day she receives a letter. This letter is from Itsuki Fujii. They start a strange correspondence. This movie is set the past of Japan. We can feel nostalgia by many scene. For example, when Hiroko jot his address, she jot on her arms. At the time almost of all people didn't have cellphone. This movie remind us the past. Also in this movie, there are two "Itsuki". One is the fiancé of Hiroko. Another one is Hiroko's pen pal. Miho Nakayama who act as Hiroko also act Itsuki-pen pal. So, this movie would be more difficult. The first time I watched it, I can't understand not all. However, this movie surely moves everyone hearts.
fbcandy Hiroko, whose fiancé Itsuki died two years ago decides to write a letter to Itsuki's old address, and she surprisingly gets a reply. The person who replies to this letter is a woman who has a same name as Itsuki, and she went to the same school with Itsuki. Two women continues exchanging letters and share their memories about Itsuki. The story line is wonderful! Many things complexly related, but at last everything comes together and make sense. The story that the main character gets reply from the dead person is common, but I could not expect what happens next, and the ending part of this film. At first, I thought this film is kind of horror even though the title of the film is "Love Letter", but it is not. The story is well written, but also the characters are wonderful. I love this film and deeply recommend you to watch it.
Atavisten A tragic, but touching tale unfolds through the remembrance of the two leads about the passed away fiancée of one of them. Miho Nakayama is wonderful in the double role. I must admit I got a little bit confused by who's who though. For those who haven't seen it, Fuji Itsuki is the one with a cold that lives in a house in Otaru, Hokkaido. I know the idea of romantic movies is to live in on the fantasy, but a little too much silly dialog takes that away for me. Then again, I never was much for this particular romantic style of movie, as Wong Kar-Wai's 'In the Mood for Love' is much more up my ally. I may read a bit harsh with regards to Shunji Iwai compared to the other reviews I've seen, frankly it's quite an enjoyable movie, but the thing is he's just no Proust.
rickenbackerazn Before I mention the story, I'd have to say the imagery is absolutely beautiful in it! The wide shots of the mountains were amazing.I really started to enjoy this when the stories Fuji writes about are shown in the movie (this seems like scenes where my interest started to increase greatly). One may find the beginning slow, but once the movie has been set up, it becomes very interesting (esp. when they start to show stories from Fujii's past).Overall, I'm not one for love stories, but Love Letter's conclusion and overall "feeling" make this one of my favorite movies. 10/10
