nadinesalakovv I just finished streaming this film on the amazon prime video free section, and all i can say about this film is that it is just about watchable, it is slightly intriguing at best. The plot is very slow-paced, the performances are not 100% great, but they're not completely awful. The hi-tech aspect is confusing, if you're a techno-hi-tech-geek then you will probably understand this feature, but watching this old 90s flick with the computer stuff featured has me thinking that back then maybe that was a hi-tech as they can get, the computer machine or whatever it is looks like a mini version of Commodore 64.Overall, this film doesn't really go anywhere, it tries to be a romance movie as well as a techno-thriller, it doesn't work, only a few films of this genre can actually pull it off.If you start watching this movie, stick with it until the end just to satisfy any curiosity, but there isn't much going on with this film, it's very bland.
jimsbaddog Unlike most of the reviewers written here, I have not read the book, but it does sound as if it would be a very good book to read. Thus my rather simple review. I'm not going to reveal anything within the movie, only adding my opinion. The filming was excellent, the sound was good but not great, I'm hard of hearing so I know. Even though the budget for this movie may have been on the low side, because after all, love movies may be loved by many but they don't normally bring in hit revenue. With these things considered I thought the movie was very good. It would seem to me when comparing a book (which lets the imagination run wild) to a movie most people would have some disappointments. But for me, I particularly liked the actors chosen, I thought they all did a good job, except for the so called VP of the company. I thought his acting was rather shallow or empty. The secretary was also very good. The story had a rather low point at the end, but considering it was a love story that is normal. The producer has to throw in disappointments etc. Tell me what you think. Enjoy!
heathentart I've met Linda Howard a few times. I know Linda Howard's writing. And this movie is NO Linda Howard plot. In the true tradition of Harlequin Romances, their movies strip any semblance of passion, pacing and plot.Linda Howard is known throughout the womens' fiction world as being a writer with very tight plots, slick and sassy words, and the hottest, most erotic love scenes. How they managed to strip ALL of this, including the original story, from this movie, I don't know. But it must've taken a monstrous effort. We have Cannon, the hero, who is no Alpha male, by any stretch. He's so New Age, you can smell the Brie on his breath. Which is sad, as Nick Mancuso is a fine actor and capable of so much more. If only it had been written for him! And the heroine... what can one say about the heroine? The eponymous heroine, Evie, has about as much sizzle as an uncooked rasher of bacon. Part of this is due to the lamentable script which never met a cliché' it didn't like. Part is due to the actress, Kelly Rowan, whom I've never seen before. She's petite, meek, and, even when angry, makes you wonder where the fire went. During the climactic scene, where you might think she'd be in fear for her life, she acts as if she's shopping for bread and milk. The story here bears little resemblance to Ms. Howard's story. The main protagonists have been dumbed down to the level of ho-hum. There's no real pacing, in fact, the entire movie feels more like a stroll in the park. Where is the emotion of two people falling in love, yet not trusting each other? Don't look for it here.Oh, why go on? Any tension is in the viewer, wondering when it will all end.The result is a film not worth viewing. Please don't judge Linda Howard's work by this film. It's lamentable that her name be attached. I do hope they paid her a truckload of cash for this travesty.
desertsunspot I was so excited when I saw "Loving Evangeline" on the TV guide, because I am a Linda Howard fan and this was one of my favorite of her books. I am also a big fan of Nick Mancuso and everything I have seen him in prior to this movie led me to believe that he would do justice to Robert Cannon. Not only did the producers of this movie totally ignore Linda's plot, they massacred the characters, also. Robert Cannon was a shrewd, tough, very competent businessman/part-time spy. They had Nick play him as a bumbling, incompetent, nerdy guy who was totally clueless. I have seen Nick's chemistry with other female stars and it sizzled--what happened in this one? Zilch chemistry. The Evangeline Shaw in this movie was totally different to the Evie in the book. What an injustice to Nick AND to Linda's story. Don't bother seeing the movie--just read the book. And if you already saw the movie, make it a point to see some of Nick's other movies such as Fatal Exposure--he's great!
