jakerchief Semi-predictable movie with a rather dull twist ending. Dino really did a great job in the emotional department and I'd love to see him in something better than this as the lead. The monster is cgi and it shows. Why they didn't go with practical fx really bugs me. The editing is pretty good and I dig the lighting of the movie but something about the writing and bad fx really took me out of a movie that truly had potential.
tomyau If you have not researched this move, then what I am about to post is not necessarily a spoiler. The pacing of this movie was excellent until the last 20 minutes. I thought that the Predator angle on this had already been done by Predator, and Predator was a lot more intimidating. Let's start with the pacing. I thought they nailed the flow of setting up the arc of the movie quite well as the original thought was there was a a psycho out there in the woods. They patiently set up scenes where it may have stayed true to a reality survival TV series. As Doug, the main character discovers that someone is stalking him in the woods, the story takes on a suspense and wonderment into the character of the stalker. Had they continued on this theme this would have been a great movie. As the movie turns and the stalker is revealed in the last 20 minutes, the pacing is thrown out the window and it becomes Predator without Arnold and credible Hollywood action sequences. The alien plays chess with Doug and taunts him. That is never developed and we don't know anymore psychologically about the alien except that they have some control of the earth. It was like they ran out of the budget before they could finish the movie. An interesting glimpse in the psychology of the stalking alien would have made it more interesting, a backwoods psycho would have even been better and would leave a lasting impression and have a greater psychological effect on the viewer
Colin Christian I thought the basic concept of Mr TV Survivalist out in the woods facing something unknown was effective. The main actor was believable and surprisingly watchable,he pretty much carries the movie and I loved the Tom Hanks Easter eggs. The reveal would have been a lot more effective practically done and in the dark,I did find the epilogue also effective. A good effort hampered by budget, had a few terrific little scenes, and the script, concept and lead were all rather good.
davidm-14 In a nod to self-filmed survival shows, a TV host is dropped in the remote Canadian wilderness to film himself for 5 days and then get picked up by his production team. Things start to go wrong, and he is convinced someone or something is messing with him. There are a few actual survival tips given in the early parts of the film. It's probably best not to know too much about what's going on before you've seen it. Thanks to a largely one-man performance by the underrated Chris Diamantopoulos, this film has a believability that another actor wouldn't have been able to carry off alone (imagine going from playing Moe in the three stooges movie to this - amazing).I was a little puzzled that the image on the poster appeared no place in the film. It was one of the reasons i picked the movie.
