kahandace A very fairy tale version of Mormonism. Obviously biased to make you think Mormonism is the best thing EVER! Not interesting unless you're actually a mormon. Read the reviews, mostly all 10 stars a from MORMONS.
g-73545 During the movie the viewers are exposed to the day-to-day life of these individuals and how they balance family church and other activities. These six individuals carry six very different and interesting lives. This documentary is not necessarily trying to make everyone who watches it become a Mormon, someone who is not religious could watch this film and end it wanting to be a better person. Though the cast does not have any well-known actors/actresses they are still able to present their lives in an appropriately respectable manner. In the beginning, we are shown Jenna Jones interviewing random people on the street. Many associate Mormons as white people who live in Utah. Though by the end of the movie we are shown six many different lives and their genuine responses to the questions asked about being a Mormon. Every story affected the viewer emotionally in a different way. One thing I took away from this documentary was that everyone is a human, no matter what race, religion, and nationality we are all the children of God, as Mormons would put it. We're all yearning for the same thing, we all want to be happy and live in peace. I really enjoyed this movie because it shows many different sides of this religion and its people. It also destroys stereotypes surrounding being a Mormon.
Trudy Stillbottom Like every religion that would attempt to make a documentary film such as this (although I doubt many have the funds available to produce a film like this) they fill the screen with inspirational story after inspirational story. Watching a documentary with such a one-sided approach is not only eye-rollingly cheesy and insulting, but is probably only attended by few other than members of their church (and I see they showed up to provide reviews (hint: check out the meta score to factor out the Mormon influence on IMDBs ratings)). What's insulting is their claim to all that is good and charitable. But, who expects a fair and balanced view of anything that was completely produced and controlled by that entity. As a matter of fact, this movie is exactly what is expected. Very obvious to anyone not a member. The one indication that they were attempting to trick the watcher into believing they wee presenting a fair view of their church was spending the first 5 minutes demonstrating how ignorant non-Mormon Americans are about their church. Of course this segment is filled with the most ridiculous responses to their questions. I would bet that non-Mormons are no more ignorant of the Mormon church than Mormons are of other religions (not covered at all in the film). This movie is as informative as a Walmart commercial is about Walmart (For all you appearing in he first 5 minutes: not very).
ecowest Last weekend I went to the movies and saw Meet the Mormons. Even though this film was a documentary it felt like you were at a full length feature film. If you want to see a movie that will make you smile, cry and be amazed, then go see Meet the Mormons. As I left the theater I had a smile on my face and realized I had just seen a film that I didn't have to worry about any bad language, violence or questionable behavior. Unfortunately that isn't always the case. The documentary was tastefully done. It had adventure, compassion, faith promoting experiences, devotion to family and job and much more. One of my favorite parts was the story of the Candy Bomber. I left the theater wanting to be a better person. I feel this movie is a must see for everyone whether you're a member of the Mormon faith or not. Take your children, definitely a family movie.
