Horst in Translation (filmreviews@web.de) "Mullewapp" is the title of a German animated 75-minute movie from 7 years ago. It tells us about life at a farm when a mouse from the city arrives. The gang needs to stick together and do some investigating when a one of the sheep disappears. The cast includes a couple famous names. Benno Fürmann I did not recognize immediately, but Christoph Maria Herbst is very easy to recognize. Król, Witt and Krekel are also known here in Germany. In terms of the animation, it is okay. Not bad, but not very good either. Could have been a couple decades older than it actually is and obviously you should not go in here and expect Pixar quality. This also applies to the story. I am actually pretty glad they kept it this short as there are moments occasionally when the film drags already. But there are also good moments and the animal characters are all fairly interesting to watch. Maybe you could call it a German approach to "Fantastic Mr. Fox", in terms of the story, not the style, as both films came out at the same time approximately. All in all, I thought it was an okay film and I recommend it to everybody who likes animated films, but especially to young audiences or the older ones who are still young at heart. Thumbs up.
Franp Franp This a nice tale for the whole family starting age 3. Simple story with good dialogs, positive message about the importance of friendship, the need to work together rather than isolated, and the importance to be frank. Nice traditional drawing, spare but good jokes. It is clearly an European animation, away from the current average Pixar/Dreamwork production. It is subtler, it is fresher, it does not resort on constant heavy jokes nor special effects ; it's more like a La Fontaine fable. It does not resort on goods versus evils dichotomy ; it tends toward the "Roman de Renard" style rather. The wolf would fit well in Isengrin clothes. Tested on children from 3 to 12 with the same success. A good entertainment for a family afternoon.
