suite92 Thread 1: Corey, Joe, Scott, and Lauren are out looking for ghosts with baby powder and a very expensive camera. They get some inconclusive evidence at the Munger Road site where the ghosts are said to hang out. Then their ride dies from a cracked ignition coil housing. Scott goes looking for help. Their cell phones get no signal, and the cell phone clocks are all stopped at 11:14. Time passes slowly. Then Corey sends them a picture, then a text, 'Run.'Thread 2: the Chief and Hendricks are looking for an escaped killer, Gunther. They want him apprehended before the Saint Charles Scarecrow Festival starts. They capture a copper thief. While continuing the hunt, they hear that Scott and Corey are missing. So they start looking for the teenagers. They find an empty van, because it's blocking a road needed to get the Festival fully setup. It's empty, and belongs to a woman in town. The Chief and Hendricks look for Gunther in a hotel in town. The examine tunnels beneath the town, and start thinking that Munger Road is a possibility. Hendricks and the Chief decide to take separate routes to Munger Road. The Chief takes a car; Hendricks continues in the tunnel. The teens decide to follow Corey. Then the film slips (off and on) into found-film mode, with the hand-held being the mode of recording footage. The Chief finds Joe still alive, and they meet with Hendricks. Will they recover the others?------Scores------Cinematography: 6/10 There's a whole lot of dark in this film, particularly in the second half. Also, the found film segments at the end were not a plus.Sound: 10/10 No problems.Acting: 6/10 One of Bruce Davison's better efforts, and when he's good, he's really good. The actors who played the teens were good but not great.Screenplay: 6/10 This was as murky as the often dark picture. The police seemed quite slow at getting to Munger Road (both to find Gunther and to find the teens). That was odd, since the Chief, anyway, seemed rather bright.
Jordan Richards The other reviewers must be blind, friends or relatives of the writer/director of this film. I've never seen a film of any genre that had so many plot holes in it that it reminded me of a piece of Swiss cheese. Actually, there were two story lines playing out simultaneously that the writer could not tie together to save his life. I kept waiting for the film to improve but then gave up and watched in awe as it became more and more ridiculous and then ended in one huge mess. I kept thinking to myself how did this movie ever get out of pre-production without someone stepping in to doctor the script. I certainly wish I had the 86 minutes back of my life after watching this clunker, and I can only warn potential viewers to watch at their own risk.
Steve Pulaski Living in Illinois, I know where "Munger Road" is located but had never heard of its checkered backstory and the rumors surrounding it. Apparently, the story is that paranormal entities haunt a specific location where a Canadian Railway crosses a road called "Munger Road" in a rural area of Bartlett. While this urban legend is relatively small, it still should have a film made in its honor, shouldn't it? St. Charles native Nicholas Smith has written and directed an interesting but relatively bland entry into the paranormal genre of film, yet has accumulated an impressive amount of publicity for the project and has garnered a solid amount of revenue as well.Munger Road focuses on two narratives (one that could exist on its own, the other one would be difficult to sustain a short film) jammed together. One story follows two local cops, investigating the area after a murderer has escaped from a prison bus and is running ramped through the town. The other centers around four thrill-seeking teenagers, two men, two women, all faceless, as they venture out to the spot I previously mentioned to crack the rumors about Munger Road.So they do, and once they stop on the railroad tracks, they apply baby-powder to the bumper, shut the car's lights off, and wait as they expect a ghost to push them off the tracks into safety. After that event, once they have gotten video evidence that something did in fact push their car, they realize that their cell phones are now frozen, their car stalls, starts, then stalls for good, and they are stranded in the middle of nowhere in the dead of night. Now the fun begins. One major problem with the picture is the lighting or lack thereof. The worst thing, I believe, that could happen with a horror movie, next to animal abuse, or a low amount of source lighting, rendering the picture as black, indistinct, and frustratingly unclear. I was reminded of the pitch dark sequences in Albino Farm, which were no help to the film's clunky narrative. Here, the scenes do not happen a lot, but they often exist when the suspense is increasing. Don't even get me started on the lack of character development either. We have dopey guy, nicer guy, skanky girl, nicer girl, and two straight-laced cops. Next.I have certain admiration for the film in regards that Smith seems like a capable directer, the writing isn't horrendously incompetent, and some of the atmosphere (when we can see it) is chilling and effective. However, Munger Road, unfortunately, could be a sour movie-going experience thanks to three words that conclude the film. I'll leave you with that...Starring: Bruce Davison, Randall Batinkoff, Trevor Morgan, Brooke Peoples, Hallock Beals, Lauren Storm, and Art Fox. Directed by: Nicholas Smith.
John-451-678019 Munger Road is a great Thriller and Suspense Movie,I enjoyed the Cast especially Bruce Davidson. The Story line is very cool and the movie moves at a great pace. The story is very believable and first time director Smith does a fantastic job. Nice to see a movie that is not all blood and guts and actually has the audience thinking. Reminds me of the Alfred Hitchcock film genre. The film ends with the lead in to a Munger Road 2 , I see this story line having the capability of carrying at least two sequels. This would make a great TV Series for cable I can'not wait to see the sequel as this has been one of the best suspense films that I have seen since " Signs"
