There were a few skits throughout the movie that were funny but over very disrespectful and horribly written. Nia, what was that? That is not Greek culture especially not the Greek Orthdox faith.

Nia Vardalos captures the unhappiness of Toula who is 30, single ,works unhappily at the family restaurant with no future prospects & dresses to reflect her quiet despair , drowning in the noise of her large , loud , hirsute , intrusive , brash , working-class Greek immigrant family in Chicago, crushed by her dramatic , sweet , manipulative , over- emotional Greek father , who believes that women shouldn't be educated , but must be Greek virgins who marry nice Greek boys & become matriarchs who rule the family kitchens.Toula's father is subverted by her mother & aunt who scheme together , resulting in a new Toula- a woman who takes charge , gets an education , a new job, new friends , confidence & catches the eye of her future husband, played by John Corbett, an easy going high school teacher who adores her & isn't Greek ( to Toula's fathers dissapointment ) but is an upper middle class wasp, with conservative , refined , quiet country-club , lawyer parents. The latter half of the film is about a mildly hilarious clash between the Greek working class and the upper crust prim , polite wasps , with Toula cringing all the way to the altar.

As much as I enjoyed the original, I wish I could sing the praises of the sequel. But this is one movie that would have been better left to the imagination. It has all of the original characters, along with all of the original jokes and conflict and story. But it was neither funny nor original this time around. The attempts to inject new life into the franchise by the marital conflict, rebellious teenage daughter, and possibly non-marriage of the Portokalos patriarch and matriarch fell flat for me. What was amusing and unique the first time around was simply flat and repetitive now. The characters seemed more like caricatures, and the charades and shenanigans were irritating. I was not drawn in by the contrived plot, nor sympathetic to the characters. I did not care what happened to them and I found myself wanting the movie to be over. I was watching on a plane and was not able to quite finish the movie, but was unbothered. I think fans of the original will be sorely disappointed. This is one film easily missed.

I am from Colombia, and two years ago I went to Greece, lived with two incredible Greek Families, learned as much as I could about Greek Culture, I fell in love of this amazing country and the kindest people I've ever met... Now, I saw at this movie in the list and I never doubted of click on and start watching it.. Only if you are a foreigner who visited and explored the Greek culture somehow you will be able to feel closer to those amazing people... watch the movie took me back to the best two months I have had abroad of my country... listening to the Greek accent, the happiness and union of Greek families, the pita- gyros somewhere and some Greek words that I still remember;all that little stuff relives feelings and memories I will never forget... Thank You Greece!!!
