Ephereal Mordendarke I wanted to watch this based solely on the title alone. I went into this film with a low expectation and even then I was left disappointed. I have only ever switched off one movie in my life, this came very close to being the second. The basis of the movie sounded quirky enough, and with an STD involved you have to expect some sex or nudity to be involved, but this is just a whole other level of BAD. I expected something along the lines of 'Teeth', 'Ash vs Evil Dead', 'Even lambs have teeth'or even 'It Follows' with a slightly camp edge. How-ever the delivery is like something out of a high-school dick and fart movie. The jokes are cheap, and the 'comedy' is crass. If you took the overcharged sexual highs of American Pie, the awkward cringe of Inbetweeners, and the OTT gross out comedy horror of early Peter Jackson. Cram it all together and remove any sense of direction, intellect or heart and you have this movie. The movie only JUST begins to pick up, right before it ends leaving you feeling disappointed and cheated.
Claudio Carvalho When the necrophile janitor of a morgue Cornelius (W. Johnson Wayne) has sex with the corpse of a Jane Doe that died of STD ("Sexualy Transmitted Disease"), he spreads out a deadly virus that turns the dead into sex drive zombies. Meanwhile, the former soldier Dirk (Trey Harrison) and his girlfriend Pam (Nicola Fiore) head to the Redwood Budget Motel to have sex. The teenage school friends Christine Wayne (Rebecca C. Kasek), Freddy (Michael Merchant), his girlfriend Carrie (Toni Ann Gambale), his fat and stupid cousin Jason (John Walsh) and the pothead Brooklyn (Tarrence Taylor) head to spend the weekend on the beach in a SUV but it rains and they stop their car at the same motel. Soon they are attacked by Cornelius and other zombies that want to have sex with them. The trash "Night of Something Strange" is a brainless B-movie film so bad, nasty and gory that becomes funny. The film is a big joke of bad taste beginning with the names of the characters (Christine, Freddy, Carrie, Jason). The lead actor that performs Cornelius physically recalls the unforgettable Richard "Jaws" Kiel from the 007 franchise and does not have any line along 1h 34 min. The jokes are gross and most of them are related to sex and the scenes have lots and lots of gore. The make-up is amazing and if the viewer is fan of the Troma Entertainment B-movies, he or she will certainly like "Night of Something Strange". My vote is four.Title (Brazil): Not Available
stephenw-30180 I will waste not one more word then necessary on this piece of crap film.My summary essentially sums up the movie as a whole....It's so blatantly obvious the morons who have given this film a 3 or above, let alone 9 and 10 out of 10 ratings are directly connected to the making of this film, are related to the film maker (who I won't bother to mention as the person deserves less then the credit of even mentioning their name) or are paid to rate the film. IMDb is an awesome tool to gauge the quality (or lack thereof), temperature, style and merits of any film in its vast data base, but, IMO, must weed out those who clearly are on the proverbial "payroll" of all involved by positive ratings for their own agenda.Of the many film Genra's I enjoy, Horror is among the top three and I am not adverse to films considered to be "out there" or even devoid of a solid plot. That said, this waste of time film is nothing less then putrid. In every way imaginable. Even for its "shock value" scenes which are so terribly acted, filmed, directed and set to music fit for "C" level films, it's up there among one of the top three worst movies I've ever seen. And I've seen 1000+ films over the past 35 years. Please IMDb, figure out a way to vet your user reviews as to not waste people's money or more importantly, time, as a potential viewer relies on the user reviews more so then professional critics. I believe the public tends to be much more fair and honest when reviewing a film. We have no agenda, nothing to gain by writing a review other then to help others in deciding whether or not to view a film by Championing said film or Dead-Panning it.As for me, and I have reviewed many films on this site as well as have much experience in film viewing, if I could give this film a -10, I would. Horror fans, run for your lives! Or, at least away from your TV screen.
Coventry I've been a horror fan for my entire life and even daresay that I kept up with the trends and hypes fairly well, but during "Night of Something Strange", my mind made an unpleasant reflection for the very first time… Suddenly it occurred to me that I might be getting too old for this genre! This particular film is so incredibly infantile and tasteless that it bothered me tremendously, yet the rest of the crowded theater at the Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFFF) seemingly couldn't get enough of all the filth and cheered out loud. This can only mean one thing, namely that trash like this is now considered the standard for undemanding horror entertainment. Don't get me wrong, I always appreciated low- brained and trashy horror flicks with sleazy subject matter, gratuitous sex footage and over-the-top gory make-up effects (like for example all 80s slashers), but "Night of Something Strange" truly reaches new heights in terms of vulgarity. We're talking necrophilia, genital mutilation, retarded jokes involving feces, massive fake penises and cum showers, vaginas with teeth (!) and bizarre worm-monsters crawling out of all possible body holes. The film starts with repulsive hospital janitor Cornelius climbing on top of a young woman's corpse in the mortuary, and the camera gradually zooms out towards the medical tag on her toe which states that she died from an unidentified sexually transmitted disease. Later that night, our janitor suffers from agonizing pains and turns into a type of perverted zombie. He rapes – and thus contaminates – his own wife and then they go their separate ways, which naturally sets in motion a humongous epidemic. Meanwhile, seven of the most sex-obsessed high-school teenagers in the world are heading out for a spring break holiday at the coast. They stop for the night at the Redwood Motel, but eerie Cornelius and several more STD-zombies are already prowling the area. It will be a night full of sexual outbursts, but not exactly the kind these horny kids are hoping for… It was stated in the BIFFF program booklet that "Night of Something Strange" is inspired by 80s classics like "Night of the Creeps" and "The Blob". There's definitely truth in that, but at least back then the sleaze was mainly suggestive and the humor was slightly more mature. Numerous sequences are simply retarded and downright embarrassing for the young actors involved. I genuinely felt a surrogate sense of shame for the kid who played Freddy and I wonder if he seriously still aspires a proper acting career after this. And yet, I cannot be entirely negative… Looking at the film's poster and title, it's fairly clear that you shouldn't expect an intelligent and suspenseful horror masterpiece. Writer/director Jonathan Straiton's main objective is to amuse a specific target audience with gooey splatter and crazy plot twists, and he definitely succeeds in doing that. The make-up effects were quite professional, the tiny sub plot of the deranged motel owner was surprisingly inventive and most of the annoying characters died in ways that were even more painful than I hoped for.
