rahs-al-ghul What a waste of time, money and resources. Gave it a go because of Norman Reedus, but even he is terrible. Tommy Wiseau put on an acting and directing masterclass in The Room when compared to this.A narrated explanation of events at the beginning is an excuse for a lack of storytelling ability and I genuinely paused to check if it was a History Channel reenactment documentary before proceeding. The male violence towards female characters was deplorable as was the passive acceptance by those characters; confusing and disturbing.Woman wants to leave, gets choked out and the other people at the house start talking about the ladies liking the rough stuff? Poor at best. This is the worst movie I have seen in a long time and I watched Grown Ups 2 recently.Avoid.
marvelgirl17402 *** This review contains spoilers *** I was a little skeptical when I began watching the film but boy did I change my mind quickly! Paul Sampson did an excellent job with everything and I hope he does more films as an actor, director and writer. This movie is destined to be a cult classic, especially with Norman Reedus fans. I like how the film "reincarnated" many characters. Some men came back as women for example. I applaud Paul for that clever idea. The fighting scenes were excellent. Billy Drago's scenes were humorous by playing a man dressed in drag. The film transforms from the past into the future smoothly and goes back and forth without confusing you. Thank you Paul for that.I am disappointed with those who panned the film heavily on here. They were either not paying attention, thinking of another film, or are just plain mean.If you are a fan of David Carradine and have yet to see this film, you must. This was his final role.
carlette-773-935975 I had never heard of this actor/director, Paul Sampson, until someone recommended him and his movie, Night of the Templar. The description and trailer peaked my interest and I invested in it because I support independent films. I absolutely loved it. Take heed: if you do not like CULT films, this may not be a good fit for you. The movie is obviously destined to join the list of cult film favorites! Paul Sampson delivers a memorable performance by endearing us to his dual roles, Jake and Lord Gregoire, immediately and doesn't let up throughout the film. Jake's persona grows in intensity as we see him begin to remember who he truly is. When some socialite chick tries to put Jake down for his line of work, we see the first glimpse of the confident Templar Knight was 700 years previously. Lord Gregoire was a valiant and brave warrior. In other words, he doesn't take any **** and we begin to see this personality develop in Jake. The resurrected souls he's come to seek revenge on don't stand a chance.Norman Reedus is great as a sleaze ball jerk womanizer and it's good to see him step outside of "nicer roles" such as "Daryl" whom we've come to know and love or the likable brother in Boondock Saints. Udo Kier was brilliant as the priest (not to mention, he looks GREAT) and Billy Drago is a scream as the cross-dressing house keeper/cook. David Carradine is his usual precious self as the shop keeper and we do get a chance to catch Sampson at his best both physically and acting-wise. The ironies between those found in the movie and those surrounding Carradine's death are uncanny to say the least which will also make this film a cult favorite if for no other reason. Sampson gets MAJOR kudos for producing such a high-end indie film and he is MORE than brave to have taken on the challenge of producing a medieval tale (in part) on an indie budget which could not have been an easy task and Sampson is to be highly commended for it. This is a great date night movie - your man will love the action and the hot chicks while your lady will love the plot and the male testosterone and eye candy. It's a win/win! I can't wait to see what Sampson has in store for us next. His range of acting is phenomenal and whatever he has in mind, I'm sure it will blow us away.
amaranthine85 Night of the Templar is quite a surprising and brilliant piece of work which I suspect will achieve the accolade of instant cult status as word of mouth snowballs this film to richly deserved recognition.Paul Sampson, both the writer and the main star of the film, has been a comedic force for some time, most notably in the fantastic movie 'Whacked!'. Many of his previous works have hinted at Sampson's saliently dead pan comedic manner (and writing skills) which comes to full fruition in 'Night of the Templar'.In a nut shell, this film is an amazing blend of the funny, the violent and the poignant. It was a joy to watch and my only disappointment is that I can never watch this film for the first time ever again - every viewing will forever be a repeat viewing.
