citronellaa Well this film outlines conservative culture in South Korea that I have heard of from a South Korean. Homosexuality is not widely accepted, men are expected to marry. The film has a kind of strange and dark nature, at times. There is a death, almost a murder, and of course, prostitution. We see the desperation of a man who feels he is not worthy due to his lack of education, and simple rural background, fall into a prostitution ring for money.A man from his previous non-prostitution workplace takes a liking for him, but eventually follows suit, giving into his parents demands - who he is financially dependent on - to marry a lady. I found this disappointing, as the two main characters were getting on well. But by the time he changes his mind, his lover already has other, very twisted plans, and is accompanied by an equally mentally troubled man to fulfill them. Thankfully at least, the plan is not completed.Overall I found this film too dark a storyline, cold in behavior, and at times the acting seemed stunted, in ways.
iamintampa I just finished watching this movie and I don't have words to summarize the emotion it places on you, the roller coaster ride of ups and downs and twists. I have never seen anything like this movie. The last 30 minutes of this film is unlike anything I have ever seen or experienced in a movie in my entire life. The visuals of the last 30 minutes -- I've never seen anything like that -- I've never had that kind of emotional experience from a film. There are so many scenes in this movie that stay with you, that pull at you, that are universal. You don't need to be gay, or Korean, or anything like the characters in this film because the emotions and experiences are universal, shared by everyone. It is a must see. Do not doubt for a moment the payback you will receive from locating, buying and spending two hours with this movie. If anyone connected to this movie's distribution or production is reading this -- please put out a high definition version of the DVD. Please!
penncare I saw this movie at PIGLFF (Philadelphia film festival). It was an incredible movie and I am so glad that it finally made it to DVD. It is one of the best GLBT Asian films to come out in the past 5 years. I judge a movie on whether it is worth paying full price/matinée/Netflix/"can't give it away" and this movie is definitely worth paying full price to watch. Some may comment it is over the top but American viewers have to remember that Asian sensibilities and their respective story lines are different. This movie is so worth watching and enjoying. I will admit the movie is a bit slow in parts but the overall product is highly satisfying. The actors do an amazing job especially the main protagonist, Lee Su-Min (played by the very cute Lee Young-Hoon). To get the full effect of this movie or any sub-titled movie, it is worth watching twice to capture anything that you miss. You won't be disappointed in watching this!
lia00027 Well South Korea has made good progress in making gay movie since "the king and the clown (cast. lee jung ki). This "no regret" movie basically is a real life story of how poverty could make people's lives change dramatically.A young orphanage (sung min) in his 20th tried to live on his life as good as he can but unfortunately he got fire from the factory where he had worked on by the CEO's son that accidentally fall in love with him when he bumped him before. Sung min became a gay prostitute and he changed from innocent silly-look guy became a masculine with good style of clothes. The CEO's son however wooed him even though sung min always rejected him, soon after they became a couple but life never that easy since the CEO's son had a fiancé and he had to choose between sung min and his family's fortune with condition to marry his fiancé. It is a happy ending gay movie even though the ending a bit blur and should be make longer. The feeling of the actors especially the actor who was acted as a sung min is truly incredible, he could showed his emotion for the first time knowing what love and happiness is and also showed the anger and sadness of being left behind and being hurt by the person he loved at the 1st time. Not to mention I have to say that the director's job is splendid everything went well and touched my emotion still the movie is quite dark they should make it lighter (for the light) since I barely see anything when they were acted in the dark room. The sex scene is really good and full of emotion and I suppose it is not been easy for the actors to do it. This is the 1st movie that could really show a good gay sex scene differ with France, Japan, Chinese, Thailand gay movies.
