Kirpianuscus maybe, this is its basic good point. to give a story - mix of humor, sadness, drama of a young man looking for the right form of family, discovering music as answer. the second virtue - the atmosphere. that does it a film about more than John Lennon but about a time, the birth of a new era and the furies, fun and self definition of a teenager. but, maybe, more important, the performances of Kristin Scott Thomas and Thomas Brodie Sangster are the best ingredients of a story who has an only sin - the less courage to propose more than a familiar drama but a sensitive portrait of a young Lennon. a slice of life. this is the best definition of it. not remarkable . but nice.
Amal Varghese *Mentioned in the trailer "Why can't God make me Elvis?" "Because he's saving you for John Lennon" That is so deep, if you love John Lennon, do watch this movie, goose-bump is all you get. I was introduced to Beatles at an early age, their music and lyrics laid a firm foundation in my mind. There are several moments in the movie that are exceptionally brilliant, that feel and the life brings a smile on any Beatles' fan. No Beatles movies will be complete without the first meeting of John and Paul, Nowhere Boy does it well and every viewer can see the revolution in front of their eyes. It is worth watch movie to any music lover. *Spoiler People are confused if the movie will introduce you to any Beatles' concerts or fame. Let me make it clear, the movie is only about John Lennon's mid-teen age and the formation of Quarrymen and barely about the Beatles.
Lizzie Mortimer Although it may sound stupid and girly, I first watched this movie purely because I'm a fan of Thomas Brodie-Sangster who plays Paul McCartney in this film, but when I watched it... It's hard to explain what you feel when you watch this movie because there are so many emotions that go through your head. You fall in love with John's cockiness and boldness, and the fact he's really a bit of a mummy's boy and his sensitivity, you cry at the end (no spoilers ;)), and you can so easily laugh the whole way through, and so on. Also considering I grew up with my parents playing Beatles tracks, it's always good to know a bit more about an internationally famous band you basically grew up listening to. One heck of a movie, beautiful acting, emotional (you might have guessed that :D), and a story that never leaves you.
SnoopyStyle John Lennon (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) is living with his aunt (Kristin Scott Thomas) and uncle. When his uncle dies, John feels left alone with his cold aunt. Then his absentee mother Julia (Anne-Marie Duff) comes back into his life. He gets more disruptive and is suspended from school. He and his emotionally unstable mother try to bond together with music against the wishes of the aunt. All three lead actors are terrific in this. I cannot say enough about the great acting. John meeting Paul McCartney and George Harrison becomes more of an afterthought. This is about the chaos of John Lennon's formative years. This movie is actually a bit better in the first half where we see his home life in turmoil. The second half has a bit too much of the Beatles origins story. In the end, that's not what this story is about. It's about the women who shaped John Lennon's life.
