gallagherg56 Frustrated by erratic and uncontrollable behavior at the hands of his troublesome alter ego, Professor Sherman Klump undergoes an experiment that separates his personality and allows the suave Buddy Love to become his own person. This time around they're battling each other for possession of invaluable scientific research which only further complicates matters in Sherman's personal life with colleague Jackson. Murphy, who's clearly having fun in his pull-out-all-the-stops portrayal of a horny grandmother, is as likable and energetic as he's ever been, but the script is awfully slim and throws out only a few genuinely funny ideas. A disappointment considering the impact of its predecessor. **
amahlanand How much can you really expect of a film containing giant hampsters, naked grannies and Eddie Murphy behaving like a dog (literally)? Unfortunately, most attempts at humour were crude to the point of evoking disgust, offence or substandard raunchiness, the combination of which isn't all that funny. The repeated heavy focus on Eddie Murphy meant it needed a remarkable solo effort to steal the show but 'The Klumps' was devoid of the charm and Murphy dazzle of its predecessor. The makeup remained the one admirable point. The more time the camera revolves around the rest of the Klumps has you appreciating the brilliance of the makeup, which adds to each character in its own individual way. The bantering and squabbling between the mother and father and even the grandma at times, overshadows the main relationship between Murphy and Janet Jackson's characters which is fraught with standardism and monotony. Though, on this occasion, grandma's mutterings don't hold as much value as they did in the first film and become hit and miss in the humour stakes at best. Apart from the odd brief section here and there, it was an asinine attempt at humour which bordered upon facetious at times.
TheLittleSongbird I loved the first film, it was funny and touching, and I feel it is underrated. This sequel is inferior, but I have honestly seen much worse sequels than this. There are some things wrong, such as the weak plot, uneven script, a slow beginning and uneven direction, but it is very amusing regardless. Thanks to some great sight gags such as the Fountain of Youth and the giant sex-mad hamster, another brilliant performance from Eddie Murphy and Janet Jackson very effective at playing it straight as the long suffering girlfriend. I also liked how it was filmed, and the score was lovely.Overall, this is not a bad movie, not great, but not at all terrible.6/10 Bethany Cox
TBJCSKCNRRQTreviews After the unfunny and in general uninteresting first, this, as the title suggests, focuses on the family. You know, the most obnoxious and stupid aspect in a movie entirely built on the two. As expected, it does not turn out well. This is nastier, louder, dumber and every other time they thought they had a punchline, they repeated it excessively. The Klumps have one-note personalities, and the fact that their flat and stereotypical characters in no way have enough dimensions to be the focus of an entire feature is evident in the fact that this is also about Sherman, whose job and relationship with the attractive female lead is threatened by the actions of Buddy, whom he cannot control. Wait... that's the plot of the original! Well, Pinkett-Smith was smart and did not reprise her role(I'd personally like to think that she channeled her hubby and answered the makers of this mess with a big ol' heartfelt "aw, hell no!"), so they got Janet Jackson and her breasts instead, and writing Jada off with a single "explanatory" line. Plus, Mr. Love gets a body of his own, and... get this... he behaves in a dog-like manner! Isn't that hilarious? No, it isn't, but it's about as good as it gets here. Common sense goes out the window to make way for more "jokes" and gags. The effects are better, though they push them way too far. There are no genuine laughs to be found here. The ethical ramifications are mentioned and not explored. Production is standard. Even if you liked the 1996 flick, you probably won't enjoy this; go ahead and ask people who have watched both. There is crude and sexual material in this. I recommend this only to those who refuse to miss it. 3/10
