babeth_jr I love this 1992 Lifetime Movie starring Shannen Doherty as Lorie Brindel, a young woman who becomes involved in a relationship with Ed Bledsoe (capably played by the stalwart William Devane), a man old enough to be her father. Lorie is unstable and has a daddy complex, not a good combination. The movie really gets reved up when Ed decides to dump the wackadoodle Lorie. The movie is supposed to be serious, i.e. Lorie's stalking of Ed and her suicide attempt, but it was just hilarious. The whole thing is over the top, from the clichéd dialog, tacky 90's clothes and big hair, and Shannen's performance. It is a guilty pleasure from start to finish.
houseofmayhem I like to MST3K this movie. Drives my roomie crazy. She takes Lifetime movies seriously.Totally a guilty pleasure movie. Cheesy and funny. What makes it even better is imagining SD rehearsing her lines, actually taking the job seriously--"What's my motivation? What would Lorie do?" Wm. Devane is not my idea of a sexy sexy older man for a younger girl--Powers Boothe woulda been totally good in that role. Or Craig T. Nelson. Or Bruce Boxleitner. Or any other members of the Male Lead Pantheon of Planet Lifetime. The whole daughter thing near the end came out of nowhere. I've got way too much time on my hands.
guilfisher-1 Jonathan Sanger directed this murky film written by David E. Peckinpah. I found it very predictable and often tedious. Watching William Devane, looking well his age and a bit older, make love to a young thing was what I found silly and not real. The young thing, played by Shannen Doherty, was infatuated with him. You gotta be kidding. Okay, maybe he had the money. But his money isn't what she wanted. This I found hard to believe. I did like Clare Carey, who played Devane's daughter, the only real value in the picture. I felt the two leads deserved each other. Both losers. As to the acting, well, I'd give them a so-so, except for Carey, whom I liked. There are better films on this subject of obsession.
Keedee Actually, for television, I found it to be a real "time passer". I mean, I could have cleaned my toilet or my toenails, but I was so amused at the fact that someone thought to pair Ms. Doherty with the renown Mr. Devane, that I found myself unusually drawn in. I know it wasn't a good movie, but it wasn't painful. If it's raining outside and you've got the flu and you can't find the remote and you're too weak to walk over to the television to turn the channel, I'd suggest this movie. As for me, I have to be honest. I've always thought William Devane was rather sexy so I probably would watch it again if it wasn't raining, I didn't have the flu and I could find the remote, but on a serious note, I didn't care for Doherty in the role, although she wasn't half bad. In short, it's bearable and slightly, yes, slightly entertaining.
