Michael Ledo Deacon (Jean-Claude Van Damme) goes to Hong Kong to donate his kidney to his niece. The night before, he runs into an ironic urban legend and gets his kidney removed in a hotel home. Determined to get his kidney back, Deacon injects morphine and goes after the bad guys with his brother George (John Ralston) getting in the way. This is another in a series (it is not over) of old action heroes beating up guys less than half their age and doing it with a handicap. I know I can barely walk after I have been under a knife, and when I do, it is not pretty. How far will this go? I mean he tells a story of crawling across the Afghanistan desert with two broken legs. The film was fun for a moment when Van Damme chose the Bible as his lethal weapon of choice. There was of course some Hollywood street theology dialogue which didn't help the film. The most amazing aspect of this film is that this script was sold.Guide: F-bomb, sex, Van Damme/ body double butt nudity
kathorder i'm rod, i watched van damme movies religiously until legionnaire and street fighter which were terrible, up until then i liked them all. this was the first movie of his i had watched for a while and it was the best movie i have seen for a long time, the plot was realistic and could happen to anyone which i liked, and the plot twists were very smart and well written. fight sequences were excellent and i put this right up there with lionheart as my favourite and both of which i can watch over and over again and never get sick of them, know what i mean? i hope he does more movies set in asia like this one, with detailed story lines and varied interesting locations
Leofwine_draca POUND OF FLESH is Van Damme's newest thriller, set in the Philippines and with a great premise: the story starts as a confused Van Damme wakes up, groggy from being drugged, in a hotel room and makes a horrifying discovery: his kidney's been trafficked while he was unconscious. The stakes are raised with an additional sub-plot which sees Van Damme's niece on the brink of death, requiring the very kidney that's been snatched. So we have our ageing action star on a quest as he hunts for the organ traffickers responsible and kicks plenty of ass along the way.The set-up is great but sadly POUND OF FLESH lacks when it comes to the execution. Director Ernie Barbarash does a very poor job when it comes to the filming style, choosing an over-edited mess which makes the film look choppy and somehow dull. The fight choreography is poor too, hiding some decent martial arts fighters in too-dark backdrops and over editing the fights so that they're generic and predictable. I still like Van Damme, and the supporting cast are okay here, but the film as a whole is just about passable rather than being the exciting thrill-ride it should be.
Dark_Lord_Mark Van Damme is back and this movie should be watched.Van Damme is a washed up man, a riff raft and a bad man.But he's a match for his niece and needs to donate his kidney. One night he gets into a fight and meets a woman and the next morning his kidney is gone.Pound of Flesh, while not John Claude in his prime, is a damn good action flick with some heart. Don't let the prissy naysayers tell you otherwise. Van Damme is back and this movie is worth a watch. It's clearly small budget but has some nice fights, nice acting and some nice moments. Their is substance there. Again, if you are a fan of 80's small budget action and 90's small budget, this is for you.10 out of 10!
