Reviews

Mark Sulzbach Richard Hatch has that Klingon swagger down as he projects an intimidating character as well as Kate Vernon who plays the character she was meant to play for a long time. Gary Graham is great reprising his role as the Vulcan Ambassador. John Hertzler who was famous for playing Martok is great in this role as Captain Samuel Travis. Alec Peters will make a great Captain Garth. The reason I got hooked on it was because of Christian Gossett who is the Director and one of the writers. My two favorite things in stories are military history and Star Trek and this is what Christian said in the trailer and they delivered on it BIG TIME!
Steve Dixon It's been a while since we've had some good Star Trek, true to the vision of Gene Roddenberry. Prelude to Axanar is what this fan was hoping for and it delivers.Told as a historical documentary, and narrated by "John Gill" (Patterns of Force -- TOS season 2), it sets up the forthcoming film on how Garth of Izar (Whom Gods Destroy -- TOS season 3) earned his wings and became a legend in Starfleet. The production is top notch and I eagerly await the film! Congratulations to all involved in the making of Prelude. As for my 9 rating it's only because I wanted to see more!!!!
john-barazzuol This film is what Star Trek was meant to be. On a Q&A panel the director and producer explained that as they made this film they kept asking themselves "Would Gene Roddenberry Do This?" and they made it true to Gene and true to Star Trek fans.I like how they've used the 2009 ships' models and phaser mounts while fixing the exaggerated ship size and ridiculous out of proportion engines. Its wise to maintain some recognizable features from the latest films. On the other hand I would have liked to have seen the Fleet HQ, Dreadnought, Destroyer and Transport/Tug from the 1975 Star Trek Technical manual. Or even the Klingon Battleship from the '90's Task Force Games Star Fleet Battles. This arms race could have been "bigger" but I see how that would have taken away from their " We were explorers" vein they are pursuing and their unveiling of the Constitution Class. Which is very cool.Where JJ Abrams has turned Star Trek into an unintelligent, mass appeal action romp these guys succeed in bringing it back to its roots and I couldn't be more impressed or eager to share it with my friends who really care about Sci Fi. I can't wait for the feature film.
Dan Balkwill Although this short film is a "fan film", the fans involved in creating this film are all professionals in the film business. The entire production is incredibly well done. Incredible writing that leaves you on the edge of your seat. Incredible acting that has me quoting some lines enough that I feel I need to pay the writer royalties! Add in incredible effects that (they tell us) were done on a very limited budget but look as good as any 'professional' or 'studio' production. The story is taken from the Star Trek episode "Whom Gods Destroy" that introduced a legendary StarFleet Captain Garth of Izar, whose tactics and actions in the Battle Of Axanar were required reading for Captain Kirk when he was in StarFleet Academy, and was Captain Kirk's inspiration. This 21 minute short was produced as a 'proof of concept' to show that this crew could produce a full length film concerning the Four Years' War's conclusive Battle Of Axanar. I, for one, can not wait for that film. Spoiler: the Klingons do not defeat the Federation in the Four Years' War, due to Captain Garth's tactical genius at the Battle of Axanar. The actual Battle of Axanar is not seen in this short.
