super marauder Okay, okay! I can clearly see from the other reviewers this one is a mixed bag. Either love it it or hate it, well that's fine. That's okay because it deals with a touchy subject.Set aside the politics for a moment, the movie is about a teenage girl who wants an abortion because she feels the baby is evil. But her father wants to protect the baby at all costs.Ron Perlman is excellent as usual playing the tragic hero who knows it's there is going to be bloodshed. He knows it's going to get ugly and he's not happy about it, but he feels it has to be done. Catlin Wachs is great playing the victim. Bill Dow and the rest of the cast is great too.I feel the both sides of the issue is being served. But it's Ron Perlman's character that really sells me on this. He is a father who loves his kids and do whatever it takes to protect them. I feel if you love this movie or hate this movie you can't hate Ron.John Carpenter has never been above pushing people's buttons, just look at 'They Live'. He said of this "it's just a monster movie", and Cody Carpenter's score captures the mood.I'm not trying to mock other people when I say this one is not for someone with a closed mind. If you feel strongly one way or the other about abortion, I suggest you avoid this one. I myself enjoyed this not because I am pro-life or pro choice. I enjoyed it because all of the characters most notably Ron and Catlin because they were real people.
revsolly Why is it that those who have no idea what the people they portray, or write about, really think continue to thrive? They obviously don't write from experience. Ergo, with any role they play, or with any script, they are creating pure fiction. What Carpenter was attempting to do is anyone's guess. However, to portray "pro-lifers" as gun-happy, violent maniacs is just too ridiculous for words.I must assume that Carpenter was trying to ask some question like, "Would they be pro-life if the baby is the spawn of Satan?" He winds up asking, "How can I be so inept and still have so many think I am great?" Here is an idea for Hollywood: Why not have a conservative portray a conservative? Why not have a military person play a military person? Why not have a Christian portray a Christian? Oh yeah! That would leave no room for the propaganda.
james higgins 59/100. The main thing about this film that really bothered me through most of it was when the phone lines were cut. Okay, this is made in 2006, so you are telling me none of the dozen or so people in the building didn't have a cell phone to call the police? That old cutting the phone lines routine doesn't work anymore. It worked fine and added suspense to movies from other decades, but not today. As a story it was interesting, a sort of twist on Rosemary's Baby. It can be very unpleasant at times, and if you can get past the plot holes, it's pretty good. The acting is fine, good special effects for the most part. It certainly has it's creepy moments.
alesisqs61 I have to say as being a fan of the man who created Halloween/The Fog/Christine/The Thing - probably his best films. Then you got this POS. I can't logically think he put any effort at all into this like he did with Cigarette Burns. At least his son made a decent soundtrack. You have to look at this from the standpoint that it didn't seem like a movie. It looked as if someone else directed it for one thing. I won't believe Carpenter put any effort into this at all.I was just listening to his old school H2/H3/The Fog soundtrack and it was awesome, especially for the times. He was using a style that no one had and it worked so well for his films.
