markimdb-6 I must admit I enjoyed this one. Being an Aussie it was good to see a Daddo in the central role and he did well. There's nothing really unexpected in this; basically a group of soldiers meets up with a group of students and together they meet up with a group of Pterodactyls that manage to reduce the number of human that are going to get out of this alive. The SF is OK for TV quality and low budget, maybe a bit gory for very young viewers. The acting is nothing particularly special, but you don't watch this sort of movie for that.Like all movies with a large number of characters, its hard to have any opportunity for the individuals (other than the leads) to stand out. Still, I loved the concept of naming so many characters after SF authors; it added to the overall fun.Mark Lester keeps things moving along and never really tries to make the film more than what it is.One of the better efforts in this category
Andy Arena You know you're watching a very VERY bad film when you're hoping it'll get better as it goes along but ... THIS DOESN'T! So many things wrong with this film, including very bad (un)special effects but one highlight is watching an undergrad student survive longer than trained, heavily-armed militants! This is only surpassed in wonder by the amazing dialog including "This is my last fruit juice and you can't have it!" ... yes, spoken to a Pterodactyl, machine gun in hand, before BUDDA-BUDDA-BUDDA-BUDDA-SCREEAAAAAAMMM!!! I am glad I watched it though as I now have a film to accompany "The Return of the Texas Chainsaw Masacre" in greatness ...
drystyx I'll give the creators the benefit of the doubt and believe they made this to be entered for a worst film festival. The main reasons are because of the absolute cheesiness of each and every situation, and the heavy handed attempt to show gore. The characters are "B" flick characters, all stereotypes. And they could be called mildly amusing if you're drinking a lot. All in all, this does look like a movie you only want to watch if you're pretty lit up. A lot of gore. A lot of heavy handed attempts to show pterodactyls as super "human killers". An over the top bit of cutting a human in half. A lot of scenes meant to get "Yew" and "Yuck" comments from the audience. Just about everyone gets killed in ways not at all meant to be creative, but probably meant to make fun of horror movie attempts to make death creative. I am totally amazed to see that 15 people gave this movie a "10" rating! Is that a joke?
Poe-17 Potential Spoilers!!! Think Sci-Fi Channel and the word "Pterodactyl" ... whad'ya'think you're gonna get? There's probably a hundred different ways to tell a story called "Pterodactyl" on Sci-Fi; this is one of them. None of Sci-Fi's movies are "nine years in the making" with budgets the size of some economically-evolving countries.Personally, a Sci-Fi movie is the equivalent of a training college where you can go get your hair cut and styled by students. It's practice. A chance for those who might have some funk going on elsewhere to ... do something else. Flex. Play. That's the actors, directors, writers, right on through to keeping grips employed. And keeping viewers entertained. Do we really expect a new movie every week with writing, directing, CGIs and all the enormous support that goes into a film these days to equal something like "Pirates of the Caribbean" or "King Kong"? Can we legally bludgeon them because they don't? Naw...didn't think so.Sci-Fi, keep making the movies. Upcoming folks get to exercise, we get to watch stuff we would otherwise not get to see and would have to watch the re-runs of something or other instead.I like Giant Birds. "Pterodactyl"? I'm not complaining.I don't have to watch or buy. From experiments like this, eventually, good things happen. Good movie, good director, good writer, good support industry. It comes together and happens. In the past, we didn't get to be in on this back end where often times really good things happen.Given the options; I'd rather see the movies.Warts and all.
