Predrag Between the brilliant The Terminator and (for me) some of his most entertaining movies (The Running Man, Red Heat, Total Recall) Arnold Schwarzenegger starred in this typical 80's action film where he plays a former FBI agent tasked with infiltrating a Chicago crime syndicate and tracking down an informer responsible for the deaths of many law enforcement officers. Despite the unimaginative plot and, at times excruciatingly clunky dialogue this is nevertheless an effective vehicle for Arnie to display his physical prowess and developing acting skills. There's a good number of action scenes and they're mostly centered around total havoc and maximum destruction; Arnie blows up an entire chemical plant to fake his own death, drives a tow-truck through a building, has an epic nightclub shootout, demolishes a construction site… There's even a five-minute scene of Arnie just cocking, locking, and loading a suitcase full of guns before his final Archer-style rampage. The rest of the film is fairly by-the-numbers; old guys in suits being corrupt, comically inept Chicago mobsters who couldn't whack a whack-a-mole, let alone a bozo wiseguy. The acting? It's decent. Schwarzenegger is Schwarzenegger which means that Schwarzenegger isn't Anthony Hopkins. In terms of acting, Schwarzenegger isn't even Thelma Hopkins. But, here, he's ably upheld by his supporting cast, the most recognizable of whom are Darren McGavin, Murphy Brown's Joe Regalbuto, and the ever untrustworthy Robert Davi. Kathryn Harrold is so-so as the love interest (and, mind you, she's not the wife), actually shining for a moment in a restaurant scene with Arnold as she takes him to task for his lack of amorousness. A classic from Arnold's early days.Overall rating: 7 out of 10.
ivo-cobra8 Raw Deal (1986) is very underrated and hated action flick of the 80's from Arnold Schwarzenegger. Commando and Raw Deal were actually the first two films in the 90's I saw on rented Video tape as a kid, by the time I didn't like that film that much, because of brutally violence and killings, I was just a child than, now as an adult I like this film very much , it is my childhood favorite Schwarzenegger action film! I grew up with this film and I disagree with all the haters of this film, watch The Expendables 3, Terminator: Genisys, Maggie, Sabotage and you will see what I am talking about! The action in this film is great, is bloody and very violent. There are guns firing everywhere. A lot's of bodies everywhere. This is an old action film genre I grew up with it. Every time I see this film again I love it.It is still another awesome hard core classic action film from my childhood. Almost all those movies including Commando are just my favorite action classic movies that still today are worth to watch. Raw Deal is Schwarzenegger very underrated and hated film, but to me is so much better to watch the then he did a new horrible films like are Sabotage (2014) that movie was so low and a disgrace for Schwarzenegger I prefer Raw Deal and Red Heat over Sabotage and the new movies I just mentioned earlier that Schwarzenegger made this days. The main plot about this film: Dismissed some time ago from the FBI, Mark Kaminsky is contacted by his old boss, Shannon, whose son has been murdered. Determined to find the assassin, Shannon needs Kaminsky's help and offers to re-instate him if he is successful. Kaminsky assumes a new identity and moves to Chicago where he ingratiates himself with the underworld. To be successful, it is vital he is accepted by the gangsters. Raw Deal is a decent 80's action thriller with Arnold going undercover in the mob to bring down a gangster. It's not one of his better pictures of the decade but there are a few good one liners and intense shootouts. Shortly after The Terminator made Arnold an international star, he made Red Sonja which was a throwback film of sorts to his Conan days, his turn in Commando and then this little gem that often gets dismissed and or forgotten. Raw Deal is clichéd storytelling at its finest but Arnold in his prime with Robert Davi in his villainous ways this flick is still a fun ride. Some good one liners tossed in for good measure and decent action. Yep Raw Deal is vintage Arnold at his finest. I love the action scenes, the mob heist in the police station, the fist fights and everything that it is in this film. I always loved this action film from the 80's with Arnold Schwarzenegger in it. A lot of people will disagree with me, but I love this film! I own it on DVD and Blu-ray and I will always watch it and love you Arnold in here. Kathryn Harrold as a support cast did a wonderful job playing Kaminski's love interest I am surprised no one mentions her at all. Robert Davi was awesome and hard core convincing killer in this film. Some of the actors did a great job in here. The ranting I am giving is 7/10 for me and it doesn't deserve the heat or been forgotten! Raw Deal is 1986 American action film directed by John Irvin, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Kathryn Harrold, Darren McGavin and Sam Wanamaker. SnoopyStyle Mark Kaminski (Arnold Schwarzenegger) is a small town sheriff. His wife Amy is tired of small town life after 5 years. Mark had roughed up a bad guy and Marvin Baxter threatened to prosecute him unless he resigned from the FBI. Baxter is now after mobster Luigi Patrovita and his muscle Paulo Rocca. Mark's old boss Harry Shannon lost his son to Patrovita's men when they hit a witness under their protection. There is a mole in the FBI. Harry wants to send Mark undercover into Patrovita's organization without anybody else's knowledge and holding out the possibility of reinstatement. Mark fakes his death and takes on a new identity as he bulldoze the organization.I don't know why he has to blow up an oil facility to fake his death. The explosion does look cool. I also don't know what kind of cop could simply gun down suspected bad guys for no reason. So this movie has no subtlety and can't be taken realistically. Director John Irvin has stuffed a lot of action and explosions to cover up the non-sense. Schwarzenegger shows himself to be more than just a sword swinger or a killing machine. He stretches his acting to show a little bit of range which he puts to better use in his other movies. It's not mindless action but the story is not written well enough to be taken seriously.
utgard14 Arnold Schwarzenegger "classic" actioner full of unintentional comedy. Arnold plays a small town sheriff who used to be an FBI agent. He was kicked out of the FBI because he roughed up a suspect ("He molested, murdered and mutilated her!"). But now Arnold has a chance to get back in if he goes undercover inside a mobster's gang. So naturally he agrees, fakes his death, and doesn't tell his wife a thing! Laughable to the extreme, this movie would have killed a lesser mortal's career. But not Ah-nold. Riding high after the Conan films, Terminator, and Commando, I suppose he was allowed one stinker. He would follow this with Predator and Running Man to prove to the world he was still the action champ. Honestly, it's not a great movie. Even for a dumb action movie, it's especially stupid. But it does have a lot of funny moments; most of which are unintended. If you are an Arnold fan or a fan of '80s action movies, regardless of quality, definitely give it a shot.
