Fujiko-san I don't even know where to start. The premise is a very interesting one, but the script is full of useless characters and stylistic flourishes that confuse and bewilder. At one point in the middle, I even thought I had perhaps taken acid by mistake. The sudden dive into flashes of hand-drawn animation are never explained or even justified. We are treated to endless, mind-numbing flashbacks, unexpectedly lacklustre acting by Andre 3000, the dialog (or voice over) is ofttimes cliche and tacked together, there are characters and plot lines that make no sense (though some are quite charming)... Basically, the script is terrible. There is no getting around it- despite valiant efforts from Liotta and Stratham.Visually it is VERY interesting, however. The decors are off the hook. The koreans are pretty amazing and every scene their boss is in- well freaking electric. There is this killer played by Mark Strong (I always have a soft spot for him) and this little girl who deserve a story all their own. This cannot save the weak ending, however, (par for the course) and the vague moral lacks punch and does the message a terrible disservice.
Horst in Translation (filmreviews@web.de) "Revolver" is a French/British crime thriller from over 10 years ago written and directed by Madonna's ex-husband Guy Ritchie. He got help from Luc Besson with the script and I usually like Besson. Not so much here though. The film attempts to be action packed and gritty from start to finish, but it rarely offers anything of substance. The characters are supposed to be dark and evil, but in my opinion they always look as if they were intended this way without ever actually being like that. It especially applies to Ray Liotta here. This film is also one of the singers' from Outkast attempt to be taken seriously as an actor. I found him forgettable and certainly prefer his work in the field of music. Now this is quite a bad judgment, but the only somewhat memorable aspect from this film is to see Jason Statham, who plays the lead actor, with long heir and a beard. The plot is completely uninteresting from start to finish and my rating may have been closer to one star out of five than on three stars. In the defense of the film, it needs to be said that the genre is not really my favorite, so films with this background have to be really good to catch my interest and, more importantly, keep it throughout the entire film. It is also way too long in my opinion, 95 minutes may may have been totally enough. A disappointing watch. No memorable scenes or characters. Not recommended.
toopcuk Despite the all star cast. Jason Statham (One of My favorites) And IMDb suggestion it it is ''Crime,Action,Drama' ?????????????????????????????????????All I can say is that it was written by a smack head, produced by a smack head for an audience of Smack heads! No REAL story, No REAL attempt to tell a story, JUST RIP OFF the film goers, Thank God I never paid to watch this at a movie Theatre. Biggest load of crap EVER in the history of film. Yet the JEWS that wrote and produced this crap are out of their heads on smack from the money they earned!! If, Like Me you are a Statham fan AVOID this crap at ALL costs!!
jgero Before this movie, I absolutely adored every Guy Ritchie movie I have seen. This is not like his other movies so don't see it just b/c you like his films. Obviously, some people adore this movie also. If you enjoy a bunch of psychobabble nonsense, then this will be your cup of tea. If you know anything about real psychology, then you may find this film pretentious in trying to make some obscure point about the ego that modern psychologists gave up 50 years ago. I hated this film as I felt that the storyline was needlessly confusing. However, if you like movies that are considered "artsy", this may be your cup of tea. I did find the movie complex, but it appeared to be complex just for the sake of complexity, rather than to make the story more interesting. The story itself is very straightforward and simple. Personally, I did not think the film was hard to understand. Mind you, I read the IMDb synopsis afterwards, b/c I thought I missed something, but nope, it is all about the film- maker's perception of consciousness. I won't be more specific, to avoid spoilers, but if you want to watch a director's exercise in discussing the human mind, and aren't offended that this is based on outdated Freudian & similar ancient psychologists, watch this film.
