redheadedgeminigypsy I just finished watching this movie on VH1 and I loved it! Somehow I missed hearing about it when it came out... but as I was flipping channels today, I stopped when I heard the music... and I'm so glad I took the time to watch it!!! As so many people have stated in other reviews, the soundtrack is incredible! The movie and the music bring back so many wonderful memories of my teen years.I was 16 in '78 and for a few of those teen years when so many of us were not old enough to get into the disco, the skating rink was our place. My first kiss was at the skating rink... but I also got grounded for 2 weeks when my mom showed up at the rink and caught me wearing my purple hip hugger bell bottom pants with a borrowed-from-my-friend-because-I-wasn't-allowed-to-own-one "crop top" (those of you who were alive at that time will know what I am talking about!) LOL I was really surprised with the acting skills of the young performers in this movie... and I don't want to discount the adult actors either... they were great! This is just an over all "feel good" movie and it made my day!
DJJOEINC Maybe it was low expectations after seeing several middling pics in a row- but I was pleasantly surprised by Roll Bounce - an charming and fun flick about teens in the roller disco era- Bow Wow was the lead in this movie playing X a son who is still grieving for his recently deceased mother.Chi Mcbride does a great job as a father who is looking for work while trying to hold his family together and deal with the passing of his beloved. For the most part this is a comedy- the kids cut on each other the whole flick- and it is fun.The crosstown rival is Sweetness- who is like the pimpdaddy of roller disco- he has an entourage including 3 hotties who have shirts that read "a weakness for Sweetness".The gag reel has some hilarious stuff with Charlie Murphy riffing .A good coming of age flick. Probably the second best rental coming out this week-right behind 40 Year Old Virgin B+
ElmStreetsLastBrat 2005's Roll Bounce is a fun and entertaining film. I had no interest in seeing it but my mom wanted to and so I rented it from Blockbuster and watched it last night. And I was pleasantly surprised. This was a fun and quite entertaining film. Bow Wow plays Xavier Smith, a teen who lives with his father and younger sister and who's mother has just passed away. He and his friends love to roller skate and one day their beloved skating rink has been shut down. But luckily a new and improved skating rink called Sweetwater opens up. It's owner is a brash, cocky, and handsome guy named Sweetness, played by Wesley Jonathon. Sweetness is an excellent skater, and so Xavier and his friends find out that there's gonna be a skate off in a couple of weeks, so they make a plan to outskate Sweetness and become the best skaters ever. Yeah, this plot does sound a little silly but it was really fun. To me the most entertaining parts of the film were seeing everyone skate and do their skating tricks. Mainly because I never learned to skate and I wonder how they do it! Skating was always so difficult for me. I never could do it! And then seeing these kids on that roller rink skating makes me wish I had learned! It looks like so much fun! So it was very exciting to see these kids perform different methods of skating. All the actors did fine jobs. Especially Bow Wow. He had some great one-liners and he's a cute guy and he seemed to have a lot of fun doing this movie and doing all that skating. He was a blast to watch. And the actors who played his friends had some funny one-liners too and my mom and I were laughing a lot. This was a very funny film also. I forget his name but the actor who played Bow Wow's dad was also really funny. He was a joy to watch too. Nick Cannon was OK in the small role he had. He didn't add anything special to the film and we could've done without him. But he was still pretty funny. But even if the plot of the film sounds silly, I think you should definitely watch this film for the awesome soundtrack! Anyone who grew up in the 70s with 70s music will enjoy it immensely. My mom was loving it! She just kept mentioning how much she loved the soundtrack and she was singing almost every song that came on! I was born in the 80s but I still enjoyed the soundtrack too. And for me that was what added to the excitement of the film. Even if you're not entertained by the skating, you will definitely be entertained by the soundtrack and the music! This was a fun film and I'm glad I rented it. Thank you for reading my review!
TheGOLDENWALRUS I have to take my time and talk about this film. I mean come on Bow-wow or whatever his name is and Nick Cannon in the same film? Two wrongs don't equal a right and this film explains why.I swear that I tried to force a laugh throughout this movie but I couldn't get past Nick Cannon's amazingly stupid character that made me so angry on how he could not make me laugh. To make this film the worst of all time we would need Uwe Boll or Ulli Lommell to direct this.I'm not saying all of you will hate this movie. Obviously it's not on the top 150 worst films list but it's a movie I would recommend skipping. This and Underclassmen. Nick Cannon needs to go away! HE IS NOT FUNNY!
