dakinea At first the film started off fine in the classic first person documentary position. However, the more I watched, the less documentary it seemed and the more staged it became. Some of the voice over commentary is dribble at best.As an active member in the armed forces and having good knowledge of the areas the film took place in, the more unbelievable the story line became. Lars taking all the liberties which he did in the film truly would have got him killed in a matter of days. Moreover, the fire fight scenes we completely staged and dramatized. But the movie is a drama so I guess that goal was accomplished. If the film was scaled back to Septem4er Tapes, I probably would have given it a higher rating. Once the point of beyond reason was reached, the film makers should have just wrapped it up. Seriously, an American with a camera going to interview the bounty hunters searching for Bin Laden and Bin Laden himself..... I am sure he would have granted the interview if he was indeed found. Come on. The plausibility of an outsider especially an American roaming freely to find Bin Laden is just too much.
falxx The only thing this movie misses, is the reality.I must admit that I had to check twice whether or not it had any roots in reality, but before the film was over, it had convinced me all by itself. On many occasions when I watched it I wanted to turn it off. The improbability of the things happening on the screen, the inconsistency of the characters, the complete obvious removal of scenery during car-scenes, all of which were not explained in a good way, contributed.Wali's accent was actually fading. Five years in the force, and walking right into crossfire? The camera was somehow on in -too- many situations that it wouldn't. The tapes was readily cut and sound mixed? Oh-really.
t a I've been to Kabul, and I've been to Khowst where the major firefight took place at the border. This movie is definitely Afghanistan. The movie is good for what it is. These guys should get an award for simply traveling around Afghanistan without protection-totally insane. The movie is convincing for so long because of the ambitious nature of documentary film-makers trying to make a name for themselves. The "director" overacts, but being a director(vain) that is believable. These guys are entirely too lucky and push the envelope too far. That's when I realized that there was no way that this was a true documentary. Also the sequencing that something is always going on, there is no down time. The 9/11 twist was a little lame about losing his wife, not a good way to end it.Just because we all felt like we were had doesn't make this a bad movie. If you like predictability you're the fool. The movie was good, and a generally good idea. If you adrenaline doesn't start pumping during the scene when RPGs are being fired at the camera as you are moving down a street there's something wrong with you.
jaijaijai73 This is perhaps the most wretched piece of garbage I have ever seen, bar none. If you thought after the first five minutes that this was a genuine documentary, you are an idiot, period. I couldn't care less what dangers, inconveniences, annoyances, and heroic gyrations the crew went through to produce this stinker; actually, I wish they had been shot as they so richly deserved. Perhaps if some Afghani had collected the bounties on their lobotomized heads some good would have been done for the long-suffering country of Afghanistan rather than inflicting this miserable excuse for a film on the rest of us. The writing and acting are physically painful, and I had to stop watching after 30 minutes because the discomfort level became unendurable, so I am offering only a limited perspective, but trust me, you won't want any more of a look at this crapfest than I had. My girlfriend, who is normally tolerant of even very bad films, walked away in disgust after ten minutes. Truly, if there were a lower rating than "1" I would give it. Avoid at all costs!
