tommyboy4582000 As a complete fanatic for zombie movies Severed is better than, shall we say Stripper Zombies or Redneck Zombies but nowhere near as good as my personal favorite Dawn of the Dead(1978).Yes it is cliché filled and predictable, but is well paced.I give it 8 stars for the standout performance of Sarah Lind and the fact she is absolutely HOT!Fighting caged zombies ala Day of the Dead and Land of the Dead is not an original idea as shown in Severed.Character "Carter" played well by JR Bourne seemed awfully similar "Carter J. Burke" in Aliens as the sniveling company man but was still entertaining. As usual the likable black guy "Mac" played by Julian Christopher is killed off.The action although well paced is also familiar to 28 days Later.Oh yeah did i mention Sarah Lind is HOT!!!
chuckm76 I was expecting another straight to DVD turkey, but surprisingly not. Generic storyline but a good original setting with high production values, good acting and good casting. If the plot had a bit more padding or there was a bit more to the story it would be getting close to being quite good. As it is, it felt like it would have made a great X-Files episode similar to the lumberjacks one they did make. Yeah you've seen it all before and yeah the characters do some dumb things, but on the whole it ticks most of the boxes. The zombies in particular are very good, convincing and scary. I've seen better but I've seen much worse. Zombie fans will enjoy
ticklemytoes This is actually a good movie. Maybe I'm weird, but when it comes to zombie movies, I have been looking for something a little bit different than what I normally get, and i found it in this film. The gore wasn't all that great, but in actuality, it was just right. Sure you didn't see flesh being ripped off, but this is also a horror movie. The movie stuck to the story and wasn't dependent on cheap shock value gore scenes. This movie kind of puts you in a situation where you think what if zombies were real? What more uncomfortable place is there than a forest? All too many zombie flicks have people in a city or neighborhood, where weapons are readily available and the characters stupidly don't use them. In this movie set in a forest you don't have the unrealistic situation where weapons are everywhere, in this film it is truly a fight for survival. I was uncomfortable through the whole movie, and I thought the zombie's were played well. If you're looking just for gore, then don't watch this, but this is a good story.
BloodTheTelepathicDog When a lumberjack hacks down a tree that has been injected with an experimental growth hormone, some of the hormone gets inside an open wound and turns the merry lumberjack into a flesh-eating zombie. If you can buy that absurd premise then this zombie flick is for you. If you can't - which I had a hard time accepting it myself - then this is still a rather well-made zombie movie.JR Bourne plays a scientist who has injected the serum into a number of trees but apparently they don't label them since a lumberjack who receives his paycheck from the same company downs the tree and mutates into a zombie. When production at the site is halted, due to the zombies and not by the handful of tree-huggers on site, led by Sarah Lind, the company's President (Jerry Wasserman) sends his son Tyler out to investigate. When he arrives on site, he finds the mill deserted and ransacked but then gets attacked by zombies lurking about in the surrounding forest. He is saved by a group of survivors led by head lumberjack Julian Christopher and activist Lind. With the forest quarantined - how they quarantined a forest in under 24 hours is beyond me - they are forced to remain on site and battle the zombies.VIOLENCE: $$$$ (Plenty of violence and gore in this movie. Since the zombies are at a sawmill, the lumberjacks have chainsaws and axes at their disposal. There isn't one major character - albeit the spineless scientist played by JR Bourne - who doesn't cave in a zombies skull in this flick. Blood splatters on everybody and the zombies also get to rip into their fair amount of flesh. Not for the squeamish).NUDITY: None STORY: $$$ (The story is rather clichéd with your typical zombie film stock characters. JR Bourne plays the sniveling scientist, we also have the fatherly Ken Foree type character looking after everyone and the budding romance between the president's son and the cold-blooded activist. As the zombie attacks take their toll on the survivors, the activists and lumberjacks become friends - getting to know one another in this sci-fi turmoil).ACTING: $$$ (The acting is quite good highlighted by JR Bourne and Julian Christopher. Bourne, who has played brash assholes in Ginger Snaps Back and Thirteen Ghosts, does a great job as the cowardly scientist. Sarah Lind was effectively cold as the save-the-trees activist and Kyle Cassie hams it up quite well as a survivalist who enjoys squaring off with the zombies).
