arfdawg-1 The Plot.Susan Stevenson and her brother Arthur get off a plane in Papua New Guinea, looking for her missing husband. They team up with, Dr. Edward Foster. The three head into the jungle, get in more than a few fights among themselves, and view lots of gratuitous animal cruelty, notable an iguana getting eviscerated. And it begins with a turtle attacking a croc! WTF?Very cheaply made movie. The music is like those horrible Filipino movies from the 60s/70s. Ursula Andress walks thru her role with raccoon eyes and Keach must have been on his coke bender to make this movie.I'm assuming this movie was re-edited or re-released in that the title I saw was Curse of the Cannibal God.It's really awfully directed. And half the time it makes no sense. Andress gets attacked by a tarantula and Keach tells her to watch out because the bite will kill her (it won't) but then they all go to sleep on the jungle ground where anything can get them!Kept waiting for Andress to undress. Didn't happen. She was already past her prime anyway.
Michael_Elliott The Mountain of the Cannibal God (1978) *** (out of 4) Italian cannibal flick has a wife (Ursula Andress) hiring a man (Stacy Keach) to take her through the New Guinea jungle after her husband went missing on an expedition. Soon the group are battling the wildlife as well as a cannibal tribe that were thought to have gone extinct. Sergio Martino's THE MOUNTAIN OF THE CANNIBAL GOD contains the same nasty stuff that most films in the genre have but this here is slightly different in the fact that it contains some very familiar faces. Andress certainly had come a long way since her DR. NO days but I must admit that I really enjoyed seeing her here. Even though she was 43-years-old at the time of filming, the actress looks absolutely beautiful and it was fun seeing her give it her all in regards to not only the nudity but also going around in dirty water and dealing with countless things including a large python at one point. It was also fun watching Keach here who is as calm and collective no matter what he's doing. The two of them certainly help keep the film moving and it's fun seeing them in an exploitation film like this. Martino actually does a nice job in the directing department as he at least brings some style to the film and doesn't forget to deliver on the trash. Those against animal killings are going to want to avoid this as there's some pretty graphic stuff going on here. The movie also offers up some pretty graphic violence towards humans and the uncut version of the film features a pig rape and other sexual natured stuff. In fact, I'd say go with the slightly shorter version to miss this trash. As with most in the genre, I think the films work best if you look at them as jungle adventures and on that level the locations and the drama behind the various attacks make the film worth viewing. Of course, most stomachs aren't going to be able to take it.
Vomitron_G "Normal" movie-watchers wouldn't probably rate this type of sleazy Italian trash any higher than 4/10. But when it comes to Italian cannibal-movies, these films should be judged by different standards and different rules apply to the genre. I say MOUNTAIN OF THE CANNIBAL GOD delivers the goods. It's entertaining, adventurous and contains a healthy dosage of cannibalistic gore and nudity (provided by a gorgeous-looking Ursula Andress, amongst others). Of course, there's also the obligatory violent wildlife stock-footage and cruelty-to-animals scenes. I myself am not in favor of such scenes, but one can always close his eyes for a few seconds when they come on. Regardless, this is certainly one of the better cannibal-movies I've seen so far.
DigitalRevenantX7 Susan Stevenson & her brother-in-law Arthur arrive in New Guinea to search for her husband Henry, who has gone missing while on a secret expedition to Roka Island, which is forbidden to all outsiders. Along with Henry's friend Edward Foster, an anthropologist, to guide them the group head for the island. Once there they discover that Henry had discovered deposits of uranium. But the group is then captured by the Puka, a tribe of cannibals. There is nothing quite like the Italian cannibal film. This sub-genre started in 1972 with Umberto Lenzi's "Deep River Savages / The Man from Deep River" & continued on until 1981, with such 'classics' as CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST, CANNIBAL FEROX & ZOMBI HOLOCAUST.As with all these films, "Mountain" is nothing more than a collection of gore-laden shock effects. We have a decapitation, a guy caught in a stake cage trap, a cannibal being castrated for trying to rape star Ursula Andress, a dwarf's brains splattered all over a rock & a corpse with a Geiger counter rammed into its rib cage. I would recommend this for gorehounds such as myself, but for all others to avoid.
