TheHoopster00 They mix in Star Wars and other space movies into the mix. They also make everything the opposite and the enemy leader is absolutely the funniest with how he commands his army of "assholes". It is such a funny movie and was one of my first comedy movies and it was really good. I have seen at least 3 times and it never gets old and you can understand some of the jokes better the more you watch. One of my personal favorite scenes is when they are told to comb the desert and they get an actual comb and start "combing" it. The ending is great with Lonestar marrying the Princess who he absolutely hated in the beginning of the movie. Caps off to Mel Brooks putting this together the way he did.
agk4984x Probably the worst movie I've ever seen. It's an hour and a half of terrible puns. Barf? Yogurt? Pizza the hut? comb the desert? Jam the radar? awful. I love Mel Brooks, but if this was his first movie, he would have never worked again. Sorry, but this film is Un-watchable. Even the great John Candy could not redeem this atrocity.
grantss Good parody of Star Wars. Hilariously funny at times, though very silly at times too. Probably the movie that set the standard for movie parodies. Ultimately doesn't just spoof Star Wars - Alien gets a shot, as well as Planet of the Apes. Contains the trademark Mel Brooks slapstick and plays on words and names.Decent performances from an all-star cast (some of whom weren't stars at the time, but are now): Mel Brooks (of course), Rick Moranis, John Candy, Bill Pullman, Daphne Zuniga, Dick van Patten, and Joan Rivers' voice. Probably the only good movie Bill Pullman has acted in. Also has John Hurt in a very minor role.A comedy classic.
Mr-Fusion I have fond memories of "Spaceballs" as a kid (you'd be surprised how enjoyable this is to those of an impressionable age - then again, maybe not; a lot of the humor is completely childish), and it effectively planted the seeds for a later Mel Brooks interest. The jokes work because (partially) it's a straightforward fairy tale, but also because it's got a terrific cast. And the sense of humor is all over the map. Even still, while some gags don't land, there's some razor sharp wit. How many times have you seen some Star Wars merchandise and immediately thought of Yogurt's display of licensed products? It always feels like we're one step closer to Spaceballs the Flamethrower (the kids love it). C'mon, Disney, get the lead out.But when all is said and done, this is dialogue you end up reciting along with the movie. It's not every day you find a movie that's this quotable, and most of those lines come from Rick Moranis. Honestly, this is his movie, (and for good reason). This is one of the highlights of '80s comedy, and it holds up extremely well today.I love this movie.8/10
