LouAbbott There's rarely a dull moment in this better-than-average grade B monster movie. But beware if you suffer from arachnophobia (a.k.a. fear of spiders). On the other hand, there are many spiders killed, so that may give you satisfaction. There are many tense moments, which is unusual for this type of Grade-B movie. And all these reviewers who complain about "bad acting" in these types of films must be kidding. They probably have nothing else to write about, so they go off on the performances. Come on, this is not a presentation of a Shakespearean play. I very much doubt that Meryl Streep and Denzel Washington would accept the opportunity to play the leads in "Spiders". Maybe the spiders "act" better than the human cast. You decide.
brantudorelonut In my opinion this movie had a lot of potential, only if they wouldn't have chosen specific exaggerated, unrealistic development of specific situations in the story. And the low budget cannot be an excuse for that. If you have a good sense of humor you'll actually find those scenes laughable, funny due to their ridiculously unrealistic nature. The funniest sequence is in the end where the giant spider supposedly died from a gas pipe explosion despite the fact that the creature could withstand heavy fire from tanks. Also the other funniest scene is when martial law is in action, the army happens to catch the hero at gun point and he just starts running and "escapes". The computer animations of the spiders are decent. I think it would have been way better it they would have chosen to let the queen spider alone so the could had been able to develop new weapons, and use some existing one to kill the spiders from inside out.
Michael O'Keefe An abandoned Soviet space station is ripped apart by asteroids causing one of the modules to spear itself through a Manhattan street and split open in a subway tunnel. The New York City Transit Authority takes charge of the investigation of the crash after no other authority found anything of interest. Well guess what? Tarantula sized spiders are found and just one bite becomes deadly. The victims become a home to lay eggs in.Citizens are told there is a deadly virus contaminating the area; thus giving the military reason to establish martial law. A Russian scientist is wanting the queen spider to use the material it spins for a secret weapon. The CGI is really not all that bad; except the queen spider keeps changing size. The spiders actually look pretty neat and are what the budget probably went for; they upstage the lead actors making them look like they were doing just another school play. Now there is some creature violence and disturbing images that should make a few viewers happy.Players include: Christa Campbell, Patrick Muldoon, Sydney Sweeney, William Hope and Nikolai Sotirov.
brandonsullivan91 Bad acting in a story filled with plot problems, it moves slowly and didn't even scare my wife who is terrified of spiders (which was my main motivation for renting it). The only redeeming quality was that it was actually so bad that we laughed to the point of tears at a couple spots. My favorite moment in the movie is when the main character is surrounded by a s.w.a.t. team and slowly backs away and then successfully runs away without one soldier managing to fire a single shot. The other moment I enjoyed was when the main character fights the mother spider with his fists after tanks, machine guns, and missiles failed to do any damage...sure that makes sense. This movie really doesn't deserve ten lines or ten minutes of your time, but alas my displeasure desires to have a voice.
