Reviews

hat_city I can't believe how misleading the reviews for this movie are! Everyone's just going on and on about how awesome and action packed it is.... Well, I got news for you: this movie is Terrible. Tortuously slow and boring. Horrible acting. Way too much tear-jerking, male bonding, and violin music. And the terrible dialogue just keeps going!!! It never ends!! I kept checking the time and thinking "Oh my God, it's only been 30 minutes??" And it never, ever gets better. The only good fight scene is in the last 15 minutes of the film, Donnie Yen vs. Sammo Hung. Do yourself a favor and just look up the fight scene on youtube. Even then, don't expect it to be an amazing fight. All in all, this movie was a huge disappointment and a total waste of an evening.
bennyhagen I somehow totally missed this flick in the 90', having seen it now in 2015 I'm pretty damn amazed at some of the stuff that can be witnessed here. The fights are top of the list to this very day, really the kind of stuff that every martial arts junkie has to see before dying a slow motion death from a spinning wheel-kick. Some of cinematography is pretty artsy as well. All the rest is pretty clunky, but easier to swallow if you can manage to concentrate on how bleak and inordinary this movie is rather then the terrible writing and acting. As you might have heard, the ending is pretty f*cking dark too.B-Movie fans will know what to do with this.6/10
theneilrules Oh!..... I think this is one of the best action movies ever made. Donnie Yen at his very best. Whether its the knife bout or the kicks and punches, he simply rules. After this movie, I can say he is my favorite Asian martial artist. The movie is very serious and somewhat dark. Not only the bad guys, but the cops are also involved in shady business. But one just cannot withstand the other. Superb characters, top notch direction and excellent choreography wraps up the show.Just go watch it. You won't be disappointed. This is a great action movie.Highly recommended. 9 out of 10.
rhitwick Its a pleasure to watch Donnie Yen fight.(Isn't it a bit similar with Flash Point? Now, don't come after me, It just seemed to me :-D )WOW!!! Very strong story, seriously, after Ip Man, I found this is more a good story based movie of Donnie Yen. Obviously better than Flash Point and Dragon Tiger Gate. Very complex and twisted story line. And acting of both the leading men are commendable. Though fight scenes are less they compensate when they are there. Its a bit brutal for such movies, specially a few killing scenes, normal viewers may not digest it. And, I think, this brutality gives the vengeance a new level. Story is a bit in line with "Sympathy for Mr. vengeance" but not that intelligent. Few scenes raise strong emotions.Only complains are, less fight scenes. Come on, its Donnie Yen I can demand him fighting more than he talks. In a few scenes the movie tried to be arty, symbolic, which just, simply failed. Not at all required. They just increased the length but did not add anything.
