Predrag Don't be mislead, this is one stupid movie. It's supposed to be, and succeeds with flying colors. Before the "Scary Movie" franchise there was "Student Bodies", with office supplies and vegetables as murder weapons, rubber chicken voice alterations and co-eds so overwhelmed by hormones that they can't help but invoke the serial killer stalking young lovers. The movie starts off with a bang (death by paper clip, anyone?) and the on-screen body count throughout is amusing, but it just seems to drag on and on and on. when everything's said and done, this movie is simply too stupid for it's own good. The story is silly. There are plot holes, big enough to drive a truck through. (With big blinking signs pointing to them in some places.) Teenagers die in silly ways for having unauthorized sex. The dysfunctional heroine tries to figure out who is doing it in order to clear her name. (It always seems like she is in the wrong place at the wrong time.) And wait until you see who gets crowned prom queen. Although, it's Written and co-directed by Carson show writer and successful Woody Allen collaborator Mickey Rose, it's certainly no "Bananas" or even "Take the Money and Run" but it's a diverting enough warm up before a Wayans and Zucker marathon.... Hasn't there been enough senseless killing? Let's have a murder that makes sense!Overall rating: 5 out of 10.
Charlie X (kerli2600) Student Bodies was the first film to have horror and comedy put together. It takes classic horrors such as Friday the 13th, Halloween, and even a pinch of Carrie with a off the wall twist. The premise sounds fantastic; however, when it comes to execution this film falls flat on its face. When you take classics and turn it into a parody you have to have a good script with clever dialogs and characters and this film is more miss than hits. The main problem is that the jokes needs to have a sort of explanation which a no-no. In order for jokes to be funny it has to be well thought of in the moment. There is a running gag that whenever students are killed there's a body count indicating how many of them are dead. It is there for the sake of it or the fact the audience can't tell if they are actually dead. Also there is one scene where one of the students is supposed to be dead but he is smiling and moving his arm a bit. I don't know if that was intentional or not nevertheless it was a off put in. One note to be said that the reason this film is rated R it's because there a is a segment where the announcer says in order for the film to be Rated R it has to have the criteria of past classic horrors films such as nudity, violence, etc. Finally at the end he said go F*** yourselves. Just because of the word Student Bodies is rated R silly isn't it?Acting was good especially the Janitor. He is one of the characters that stood out to me because of the way he is written in the film. The killer name is Breather and for me he is kind of funny. Besides the fact that his speaking parts were terrible there were parts where his breathing was so exaggerated I can't help but laugh hence his name. It does wear off over the course of the film. On a technical level it's good so there's that positive point. Overall I didn't like the film but it is not enough for me to hate it since it did made me laugh 15% of the time. It had a lot of potential especially the fact that it is the first horror/comedy; unfortunately, it didn't live up to the hype.
kirbyskay2012 I saw this weird number on TV when there was absolutely nothing else new on the tube, and have never forgotten it!Singular for containing no known actors, a really weak plot (a psycho killer is targeting high school students at a school dance), terrible acting, and an obvious budget of near-zero, it is still one of the most entertaining movies I have ever seen. It's sole saving grace is one actor, whose name is a mystery to this day (billed only as "The Stick") and very aptly named (you'll know what this means as soon as you see him!) He plays the strange high school janitor who is so odd that he can't find any girl anywhere to be his date for the dance. Never seen anything like him that still falls within the bounds of the human race, but all of us were actually rolling on the living room floor with laughter every minute he was on screen.Unfortunately, all attempts to find this gem on DVD or even VHS tape anywhere, have failed. Hopefully, maybe some day it will turn up. If you find it anywhere, don't pass up this opportunity to see a truly unique movie!
Scott LeBrun Back in the early 1980s, the slasher film had already become so popular and profitable - and formulaic - that comedy filmmakers were all ready to make fun of the genre. "Student Bodies" has to rank as the best of the bunch, which also includes such films as "Pandemonium" and "Wacko". Written by Mickey Rose ("Take the Money and Run", "Bananas") and produced & directed by Michael Ritchie ("The Bad News Bears", "Fletch"), "Student Bodies" is pretty funny stuff, telling the story of a heavy breathing killer running amok at a high school, targeting the kids that really have nothing else on their minds besides sex. "Nice" girl Toby (cute, endearing Kristen Riter) has suspicion fall on her when she manages to be present at some of the murder scenes, so she has to solve the crimes in order to clear her name. The movie begins very brightly, managing to take place on Halloween, Friday the 13th, and Jamie Lee Curtis's birthday all at the same time. Some great gags are created, such as the killer most often going with the least likely murder weapons possible (paper clips, erasers, etc.), their tendency to constantly step on chewing gum (sugarless, to boot), the indicating of important plot points on screen, the flashing of the running murder total whenever somebody gets slaughtered, and especially the significance of the horse head bookend. (Trust me, talking during this movie is as sacrilegious as talking during horse head bookends.) Among the gems of dialogue are "Oh. It sounded like you were talking through a rubber chicken.", "Malvert pee red!", and "Hasn't there been enough senseless killing? Let's have a murder that makes SENSE!". The no-name cast is quite engaging in their ridiculous parts, with one guy truly standing out, and that's long limbed stand-up comedian "The Stick" as the hilarious Malvert the janitor. It tends to lose some steam as it goes along, and the ending isn't terribly satisfying, but taken as a whole it's good fun and often genuinely amusing. This viewer still laughs frequently after repeat viewings, regarding this as a solidly entertaining comedy.Besides which, watching slasher film spoofs gets him hot.7/10
