deana_lisi I found the DVD of the entire miniseries in a store last month, and I totally don't remember watching this or even seeing commercials for it when it was new, which is weird, considering that I love these kinds of shows. I'll say one thing right now: Scott Cohen blew away every other actor in the whole thing, lol. He plays a humanoid wolf, and to say that he threw himself into the role is an understatement. He'll crack you up, especially when he gasps, (which he did at least 50 times lol). He's the best part of the show. I won't say much more considering that there are so many reviews describing the show, but there is something you need to be warned about: this was filmed before 9/11, and in the fascinating opening credits, they show the NYC skyline...and the Twin Towers are in it. The sight of them sent a chill down my spine, (I watched 9/11 live all day and will never forget it) and it showed all the buildings 'falling' and being replaced by fairy tale-type structures...and near the end of the credits, after a giant steps over the bridge, the Twin Towers 'fall' too. I didn't notice that part until watching the last installment today, and the sight made me cry. If you watch this miniseries, be prepared for that very unexpected sight.
momo36947 this film was written by Simon Moore and produced by Robert Halmi. The movie starts out in modern-day New York, following a girl named Virginia and her father, Anthony. Then in a different realm where Cinderella, Snow White, and Little Red Ridding Hood were once rulers of the land. Prince Wendell, the grandson of Snow White Gets turned into a golden retriever by his step mother, the evil queen. When the evil queen sends trolls after him to kill him, he finds a way to escape by running through a magic mirror. This is when he runs in to Virginia and their journey begins. One of my favorite characters is Wolf. I like him because he is relatable. because people judge him by his appearance because he has a tail and then they run away. And assume that he is always to blame. This is relatable because it is very easy to del like an outcast and that everything is your fault some times. This film is very unique because it gives a good twist on classic fairy tales. one of my favorite clips from the movie is when Virginia is try to win a competition by singing we will rock you in a lame remix( have to watch the movie to find out what that means). this movie was very emotional movie to me because you go on an emotional roller coaster , sometimes your happy , sad and laughing.
laurens_dogg I adore this series. It's an original adaptation of the classic Grimm fairy tales, put in a modern, more dark perspective, and giving it a certain realistic depth by placing two no-nonsense New York citizens in a world full of magic. The series is not flawless, as sometimes the humor seems a bit cheesy, but the overall presentation is as enchanting as the events that occur. I just loved the role by John Larroquette, who plays an ex-successful businessman turned janitor, and has the same humor through subtle self-mockery as the likes of Bill Murray and Kevin Spacey. Scott Cohen shines as an over-the-top half-wolf, whose inner battle between two personalities is displayed in a comical yet convincing way. The cast also includes some famous faces such as Rutger Hauer and Robert Hardy, and is all in all convincing, mostly with characters that are easy to relate to. A lot of the series power is in the multitude of on-location filmed sites through which the journey takes the main characters. One episode contains some simply idyllic footage, with the gorgeous Austrian mountains backed by a beautiful score of classical music. The series must be watched with an open mind however, expect no revolutionary filming techniques or award-winning performances, but be prepared for an extremely enjoying, consistent series that deserves a second watch, and is as magical as its subject matter.
Kas10 I first saw this when it originally aired on television. At the time I was in seventh grade. I will turn twenty tomorrow. Wow, so long ago. I believe this mini series is just fantastic. All of your childhood fairy tales are in it and told in a modern way. Wolf is just amazing and Kimberly Williams Paisley(now a mother!) is just drop dead gorgeous. Their performances and witty slapstick comedy/romance will get you going all throughout the nine kingdoms. I recommend that everyone see this at least once. Strangely enough, this movie is in my top ten. I found it on DVD used at FYE. Keep searching and you can find it. I also found the paperback used online.
