mcshermansmithy Somehow, this movie, in less time and lesser budget, showed a good Green Lantern story than the live-action one. Green Lantern: First Flight has every that fans of the comics would want. Action, character development, a decent villain, and an awesome hero to root for. I'm not going to spoil anything here, but if I had to pick between Green Lantern: First Flight and the live-action Green Lantern I would pick Green Lantern: First Flight in a heartbeat. My only complaints are that while I know that the regular running time for DC Universe Original Animated Movies is 77 minutes, but I wish that this was longer or there would be a very strong indication that Hal Jordan's adventures would continue. Sadly, I guess Green Lantern: First Flight wasn't that successful enough to warrant a sequel. But still, I recommend Green Lantern: First Flight to anyone who either loves Green Lantern or DC Comics. I promise you'll love it.
TxMike The new Green Lantern movie is out in theaters, and will soon be available on DVD. Although I read comic books growing up, I was totally unfamiliar with The Green Lantern. So I got this animated version from my public library, to gain some familiarity with the subject.I have seen the trailers for the new movie, and from that glimpse I believe this animated version tells pretty much the same story, although it also appears the the villain has a different name.Hal Jordan (voiced by Christopher Meloni) is your normal American hot-shot pilot, and we see him doing a check ride in a simulator. Suddenly the simulator is ripped out of its building and when |Hal gets out comes face-to-face with a strange-looking green alien. But he is not dangerous, he is on a mission, looking for the new member of The Green Lantern society, and the green lantern ring has chosen Hal.Not all goes smoothly when Hal travels intergalactically to be evaluated by the tribunal. |They don't think a human (Earthling) has the discipline to be in The Green Lantern. Hal's main instructor is to be Sinestro (voiced by Victor Garber).Pause to explain, The Green Lantern is not one individual, but is a society of thousands, each one has a particular section of the universe to protect. They wear the green ring which allows them to demonstrate and use a number of very handy super powers. So anyway this is Hal's story, to become accepted as a Green Lantern member, and on the way to accomplishing that has to battle some evil forces that want to take over the universe for their own purposes.
disdressed12 i thought this was a very well done animated movie.it's the origin story of how Hal Jordan became a Green Lantern.i have no idea how close it is to the original comic book origin.but i do knew,i loved the story.i thought it flowed very well, with a good mixture of action and drama.i thought the voice acting was terrific.plus, they seemed to have a good script to work with.i found the dialogue to be really good,as well.none of the usual cheese we tend to see in many animated or even live action movies.i think this particular animated film is as good as any of the recent spate of releases by both Marvel and DC,and it's certainly as entertaining.for me,Green Lantern:First Flight is an 8/10
implaxible I haven't read the GL comics for several years, mostly since they switched Hal Jordan for the new guy(s). However, most of the characters are familiar in this movie and I don't feel I missed a thing (except a giant boxing glove!) It was nice to see GL up on the "big" screen for a change -- this could certainly be done live-action nowadays. However, it seems like a pilot for a TV series (like Clone Wars was).I thought I saw a few references to old sci-fi icons in this one -- Cooch looked like that cucumber alien from It Conquered the World, and I think the spaceship the GLs ferried Hal Jordan to Oa the first time resembled the Phantom Cruiser from Space Ghost.I would have liked to see more of the actual weakness of the green ring to yellow, perhaps having it fizzle out somehow when it contacted that color. However, it seemed to have no weakness at all, even to the point of being able to damage the Yellow Lantern (albeit cleverly). Even if it was explained it was only affecting the black parts, it would have made sense.
