alexwesterberg Went into it having delayed many years of "saving up". Because dir. Scorsese and actor starring is Leo.Turns out it's quite a boring pic, none of Scorsese's flair is really demonstrated, Leo seemed to pull some very familiar faces that reminded me more of him in other works than a convincing Howard Hughes (ESPECIALLY) lacking the Texas drawl. The 20s vibe was played up but doesn't interest me much at all. The flight CGI scenes were terrible (both looking painfully cgi and the flight paths behaving very uncharacteristically- blame my too many hours in war thunder). The scars post accident didn't look very good.Katharine Hepburn's actress was extremely good.
Leofwine_draca THE AVIATOR is a lengthy biopic directed by Martin Scorsese and covering the life and career of the notorious Howard Hughes, a Hollywood film producer and director and aviation expert. Leonardo DiCaprio bags the main role in an early grown-up star-making turn and does pretty well with it, although he did better in his next Scorsese film, THE DEPARTED. The film as a whole drags a bit and suffers from a surfeit of riches, with too many supporting actors playing famous faces and not all of them doing a very good job (I was cringing at Cate Blanchett's Hepburn portrayal, for example). The first half is by far the worst, a slow run through uninteresting romances and early film-making, but things pick up in the latter part with psychological depth and complexity and some decently-staged quiet tragedies. Scorsese's attempts to give the film an old-fashioned look which develops with the progression of the years is a clever angle, but those bad CGI planes come as an unwelcome surprise.
Unhelpful Yoda Wow another amazing performance from Leo. I must say this film never interested me but I watched it on Netflix tonight and I thought it was great. Leonardo never ceases to amaze me. He plays the role of Howard Hughes who was a filmmaker then a aviator. Howard Hughes suffered from OCD and was known for his eccentric lifestyle. Leonardo did a great job of portraying him and the scenes where he is in a deep depression in his movie room were acted so well. I also loved the costumes which I think portrayed that time period perfectly. Especially Kate Beckinsale as Ava Gardner with the hair and hats, was spot on. I think this film was great and very enjoyable. It's sad to see the character of Howard Hughes declining but it is inspiring to see how much ambition he had. I really recommended this film, it is rather long but worth it.
diddly_diddly_swag I went to see this movie when I was in Junior High and didn't enjoy the movie very much. I'm a huge Leonardo DiCaprio fan. It was a random Wednesday and I went with my best friend, his girlfriend, and my girlfriend. My best friends girlfriend and my girlfriend were also best friends. We got to do a lot of things together and this movie was just another example. We got there early- bought some soda, popcorn, goodies, and went to take our seats. My best friend likes to sit near the front so him and his old lady went for the front while my girlfriend and I took the far back seats. After the movie started we realized there was only a few other there. My girlfriend and I snuggled up in the back row and began the movie. After a while we got bored and made out. After this she gave me a handy. The movie is at best a 7 but the experience is a 10. at least for a kid in Jr. High.
