azzabrown93 Nick Love's follow up to Football Factory begins in a similar fashion to Scarface, the difference being that The Business has an ending which leaves the audience feeling content, and even leaves room for a sequel - something which Scarface does not.The film captures the sentiment of cockney gangsters, which Guy Ritchie never could. A fairly unfamous cast was used which resulted in less predictability; something which may spoil future Love productions if he continues this re-occurring cast.Overall,a fabulous soundtrack and stunning visuals capture the vibe of 1980s ex-pat Spain perfectly. My one criticism would be the weakness of the plot in the Second half of the film in comparison to the first. Let us hope Nick Love finds the form of his first two films after such disappointments as Outlaw and City Rats.
Chris Sullivan Lots of things in this film are good; it's well acted (with one or two exceptions), directed, written, edited and shot; it shows the very unattractive world in the Costa Del Crime in Spain – maybe Malaga but who knows; nobody has any taste and they talk and dress like Chavs or pikeys – you take your pick. But the problem I have with it is its morality; there are a few incidents in this movie where women really get beaten up; the opening scene, for example eventually reveals a really savage beating; maybe about ten or fifteen hard punches and then when the girl moves another one to put her to sleep; maybe permanently. If these kind of things happen in a movie they should be resolved with the instigator getting his comeuppance – not in this film and I don't know why. The film has a great 70s/80s sound track but skip it!
li-findlay After watching this film for the first time (and it's been about10 or 11 times now) I became such a sucker for Danny Dyer! The bloke is amazing! He has such a presence in this film that I have become devoted to seeing every movie of his from now on (some not so good). This film is so class that I watched it twice in a row once. Never a dull moment and so many one-liners you'll have yourself in stitches! The cast consists of most of the Brit flick regulars including Danny, Dyer, Geoff Bell, Tamer Hassan and Roland Manookian (in a small but memorable role) - so you won't be disappointed! Defintitely worth a watch (or two or three)!! There is always a movie in an actor's career that generates a new-found respect for them... This is the one for Danny!
okami_ito "The Business" is basically your run of the mill "from rags to riches and back to the gutter"-gangster-story, that's been delivered to you since the 30's. The plot even has the femme fatal, which is desired by the hero, but "belongs" to his nemesis. The drug-trafficking, partying and cocaine sniffing is shown here in a realistic way, which isn't something one should take for granted. Memorable is a disturbing image of a head on a stake, which comes quiet surprising and shocking. All 4 lead actors (and even some of the others) deliver 100% and are great to watch. Geoff Bell in particular gives a real terrifying performance. What a great face!He could be a James Bond from hell. But as i said, they're all worth the time watching this. The general plot is very weak, though, and the ending is rather disappointing. The final clash between the hero and his tormentor under a sewer is rather ridiculous and gives the impression of being created in lack of better ideas. The payoff is very weak. If you can live with that, "The Business" is great fun, but not a good movie.
