bluleaf I didn't think I would like this movie, and just caught my eye(and cause I like Halle Berry's other works) so i thought why not give a chance. The movie proved itself to be actually really interesting, well put together anticipating thriller. It's not the typical kidnapper film, and i found myself on the edge of my seat, rooting for Jordan to catch the killer. The moment where she talks with Casey on the phone was very well put together, and maybe my favorite scenes of the film. However, the killer wasn't most well written and found it quite cliché, even though I'd love to know more about his motivation. Like when did he start killing the girls, was it when his sister died? what happened to her sister, and if she died of cancer like we were let to believe why did he have to start killing other girls? did he just go crazy? I mean maybe he was just crazy, but i thought it was weird his wife had NO clue of his killer personality and that he had killed dozen of girls.Overall, I really enjoyed the movie. It made me root for Jordan to find the killer, even the ending was somewhat predictable, but glad it had a happy ending. I wish we'd seen Jordan taking Casey to cinema like she promised though!
toddxdavis What a narcissist the key role is in this movie. It's all about me. The screw up and redemption are both reasons she should have been fired from the job and add to this the chumminess of the staff that became a filler for the show. The plot was good, the twists were entertaining, the action was okay. It's not just that we find it hard to believe the dispatcher could figure out where the perp was and not share the information with the cops already looking for the girl (abducted, not kidnapped – stop Hollywood from changing our lexicon. At the time the lady was taken there was no known intent that she would be harmed and kidnap has typically been when a person is held for ransom. Ask yourself, why would aliens abduct and not kidnap?) The movie is about redemption. The camera loves to focus on her bi, doe eyes and show the emotions but as a 9-1-1 dispatcher, she screws up many times. And in what job would the supervisor keep this emotionally-involved person over another shift while the manhunt continues? They would have give her office duty because her emotions were getting in the way of doing her job The best acting was done by the extras, like the poor guy who actually followed the bad guy and the gas station attendant. She is not a good actor, name a movie where she was pivotal. Go ahead, I'll wait.
nerpco The Call Starring Halle Berry is a Thriller following Jordan, a 911 operator that has been given the task of saving a girl on the line that has been kidnapped. Right off the bat, the movie is fun and intriguing all the way to the end, and the movie never had me bored as it never really slows until the final act and climax, only for it to come back with a gripping conclusion, albeit a bit unrealistic.Besides the ending, the movie is rather realistic, especially when it comes to the overall topic, which is of course; kidnapping, and I feel like this movie does justice to the sensitive topic, because not only is this movie very intense, but at times it really can get emotional, and how it shifts from both segments are very well done and adds on the rising action all the way to the final act.The Call is a blast no matter how you look at it, it's nothing stunning or Oscar-winning, but it really captivates you very well with its realism and tension, it's the kind of movie you would watch with a group of friends. It gripping and keeps everyone on the edge of their seats until the very end.
huggibear I really liked this movie because we don't often get to see what a 911 dispatcher goes through. I won't spoil anything here, but this movie gave me a great perspective of their duty and how stressful/emotional this kind of work can be. Kudos to all the 911 dispatchers out there. I don't know how they do it, especially in such large metropolitan areas. I feel for them. I don't watch thriller movies that much, but every now and then I get inclined to see something other than a romance flick, yes I'm a woman. So I took this movie on because I like Halle Berry. She was phenomenal in this thriller. We always want to know what the end results are when an emergency goes down and they hardly ever get any closure or relief from their calls of duty, so it's disappointing to not know exactly if you were the operator that saved a life or not. In some cases, the news will reveal things to the public, but not in most cases. If you are contemplating watching this, I would recommend a viewing because it is an eye-opener. Who would have thought to really dig into the life of a 911 dispatcher? Very clever! 8 Stars from me!
