willpeskett John is made redundant from his teaching job and so is at a loose end. Luckily, a friend is on stopover in John's town. Some scrolls have been discovered in Peru, she says, bearing a prophesy.People make prophesies all the time. Since it's impossible to tell the future, they are all rubbish. This one has been found by a priest, making it doubly suspect. No matter, John jumps on a plane to Peru and falls in with a crowd of complete weirdos. Things get a halo when you notice how beautiful they are. The police rampage around the place, shooting people. There's a group of rebels who do the same. You find yourself screaming, 'Go home, John! Get out of this ridiculous movie! Just find another teaching job.'Do not on any account attempt to watch this film. It will make you mourn the loss of your evening.
TheLittleSongbird I liked the book, it was a fun and thought-provoking read and definitely a book I recommend. This film, The Celestine Prophecy does have its good parts but it is altogether disappointing. The film does have an interesting story, some visuals are nice, the score is pretty pleasant and fine actor Hector Elizondo tries hard to make his character at least credible. However, the dialogue has a lot of ups and downs, while the direction is uneven, especially in the slower parts where it is quite disconnected. The pacing is also rather slow, and there are too many scenes that don't go anywhere or are poorly explained. Overall, it is worth watching I suppose, but I personally don't think it is a good movie. 4/10 Bethany Cox
a-petocz slow, incomprehensible, boring. Three enthusiastic words that describe the movie of the book. This is surely a case where the movie should never have been made at the expense of the book. The best part of the movie was the scenery, excellent. The worst part was the slow moving interactions of the actors which combined with endless meaningful glances. The editing is abrupt and patchy. However, despite this, the actors worked very hard at least trying to be a little believable with a terrible script. It was startling that although set in Peru there was hardly a person of Peruvian descent wandering about the set - even in the flashback scenes depicting Peru in the 17th century. If you have any sense of history, try to avoid this movie.
Andrei I saw it last night and i think it is pretty good. I didn't read the book so maybe there are some derails from the original story. It is interesting that it gives you something to think about. I think they give you a new perspective over life, over the nature of our existence and in a way this "Prophecy" is like a way that enables you to see things that are beyond the physical eyes and what science is thinking about. The dialogues i think were OK, but you have to be on the spot and follow closely, otherwise you will not understand them. Is not a girl friend-in your arms-and kissing-movie. And again, like in other movies (The Body with Banderas and others movies) you see again the position of Church against things that might change their position in society. It's not the best adaptation of the original book but it's OK. Bye all
