c38clark The only thing that kept me watching this turkey was the belief (fervent dream) that this sucker was going to improve, hopefully, dramatically. But...no..it..did..not...There were some approaches to good action but they all fell short of Indiana Jones which the movie obviously impersonated, at least at times. There was the usual Computer Generated Imagery made famous by the Mummy movies but that was impersonation on an amateurish level. This entire movie was like that - copycat and poorly made.It makes me wonder how it got financial backing. Did someone lose a bet? Was blackmail employed in order to get funding? Extortion with a 9 millimeter to someone's head?
gildedgeorge I'm sure pre-teens liked this movie. This is one of those films where a very competent technical staff has to watch their work being neutralized by flat and inappropriate acting and poor direction. The sets are good, the lighting is well done, and for TV, the Special Effects are more than adequate. But the main characters are one-dimensional, the supporting cast bad, and the bit-players, many who are local Egyptian people, are almost embarrassing. It's a shame. A director's job is to work with what you've got, and find ways to make even the smallest role as believable as possible. It just didn't happen here.
ozthegreatat42330 This is not "The Lord of The Rings" by any means and is not even the best work of Director Russell Mulcahy. And there were far too many natives of India trying to pass as Egyptians. Having said that I found this film to be good escapism entertainment if you realize that they are not trying to present any kind of historical fact. One of the best ways to sum it up is to imagine Indiana Jones on the cheap. Casper Van Dien is always fun to watch once you accept his natural cockiness and are pulled into his ability to be comic and serious at the same time.Johnathan Hyde is always excellent either as hero (ala "Richie Rich) or as villain, and he seems to be fated to play these evil archaeologist types recently. And Malcolm McDowell is always superb. But the winner in this film was the sets, props and the soundtrack. The film was worth that alone. Still, a tighter shot film in a shorter time frame might have made it all work better. Not Oscar material by a long shot, but worth the time if you have nothing better to do.
eathemeek Well i am a fan of Egyptian mysteries... and everyone knows there's not enough of them. This attempt was pathetic. At times they throw in things that have absolutely no plot behind them.. your like.. What The.. where did that come from! The writer should never be allowed to write a script ever again. What a complete and utter waste of time. My 10 year old daughter could write a film better then this. They could at least have the least bit of facts to put in the story. I feel sorry for the actors who worked in this.. though they must have realized as their characters were all so pathetic. I have enjoyed previous stories that contain the main character.. for example Starship Troopers.. he has really taken a step back starring in this absolute sad joke of a film. Complete drivel. Do not bother to watch.
