Reviews

kgrv2000 Surprisingly good thriller. Did not expect the twist at the end. Really well-made; plus John Cusack's one of those reliable actors who can turn a low-budget movie into something enjoyable.
shonevolinekog The first thing that I must say is that many reviewers probably do not understand what kind of audience these films are watching. They think that everyone understands the point of the film, but the point is that not all viewers have over-knowledge of cinema. Therefore, by this way, I want to say, everyone who is undecided, you have to watch the film, because of the very unusual and unexpected plot-twist of the story. My rating is 10/10And I want to apologize for my poor knowledge of English/
mesmom2 this movie had me intrigued until just before the end, when the antagonist received a phone call during his 'date'. with so few characters in the storyline, that was a dead giveaway, making the ending uber predictable. i don't think omitting the phone call would have worked. it was necessary in introducing the idea of a 2nd antagonist. but there should have been more options as to who the 2nd antagonist might be. the slim pickings made it just too easy. either way, i saw it coming and it just sucked the fun right out of the mystery. admittedly, the movie was gripping until then, but that is not enough. so, out of a 10, it gets a 5 for keeping my interest, but it forfeits a 5 for losing it.
JockStein Warning!!!! This is a James Wan directed movie! That should tell you to strap yourself in and be prepared for the shock and awe that is to follow. Not familiar with his name?, Think, "Saw", "Insidious", and his latest effort, "The Conjuring". Everything that you would expect from this Malaysian Chinese director is on show. His specialty seems to be showing the very depth of human depravity in all its glory. At times the violence is just too graphic and seems unnecessary, but this is his trademark. If he is going to direct a murder scene then it is going to be bigger, better and more realistic than anyone else's. Frankly, I found it all very unsettling and was tempted to bale out long before the end. I stuck with it though as the story itself was compelling and who doesn't like John Cusack?. The ending will surprise most people, although some might think it improbable. I'm not sorry I watched this movie, just sorry I didn't realize who the director was.
