Horst in Translation (filmreviews@web.de) this 7-minute cartoon from over 65 years ago was never really among my favorites of his. It's one of his earlier films and in my opinion this one has just too many characters and too little fun for such a short runtime. It's Warner Bros, so of course Mel Blanc does all the voices again, but the writer-director duo are not Jones/Maltese this time, but McKimson and Foster, both very successful in their own right as well. Foghorn attempts to prove to a young chicken hawk that he is indeed a chicken. He has to do so after he beat up the hawk's daddy and the daddy says he is not a chicken to avoid the embarrassment. Sadly for Foghorn, this fight with the haws's daddy was his only glorious moment in here. He gets owned a lot afterward, by the small chicken hawk, but also by the dog living on the farm. All in all, not one of the greatest Warner Bros cartoons and not even among the best Foghorn Loghorn films. Not recommended.

Michael_Elliott Foghorn Leghorn, The (1948) ** 1/2 (out of 4) Henery the Chicken Hawk wants to prove to his father that he's big enough to catch a chicken but the only problem is that he doesn't know what a chicken looks like. Foghorn tries to teach the kid but he's just too stubborn to listen and ends up trying to catch a dog. This is a pretty good short from the Merrie Melodies lot as it contains some minor laughs and some good action. I think what works best is all the action between the dog and Foghorn who keeps getting blamed for everything that happens. Henery is cute enough to work, although I didn't laugh at him too much.

movieman_kev Little chikenhawk Henery longs to proves to his grandfather that he's old enough to catch chickens. Foghorn Leghorn just so happens to be a chicken but Henery thinks he's just a schnook on account of his hear his pop call him that. The cartoon is hilarious and if Robert McKimson just stayed with making Foghorn shorts, and never EVER made a Bugs Bunny cartoon then I would have no beef with the guy at all. This animated short can be found on disc 4 of the Looney Tunes Golden Collection Volume 1 and features an optional commentary by Micheal Barrier.My Grade: A+

Op_Prime Classic short is what this is. Foghorn Leghorn is a great character and always provides a good laugh in his shorts. As opposed to trying to trick Henry Chickenhawk into thinking he is not a chicken, he does the opposite. And what are the results? Laughter.
