Telly Paretta (Julianne Moore) lost her son Sam 14 months ago. She's not getting along with her husband Jim (Anthony Edwards). Therapist Dr. Jack Munce (Gary Sinise) is treating her. Ash Correll (Dominic West) lost his daughter Lauren on the same flight. Then evidence of Sam's existence disappear. Jim and Dr. Munce claim that she had a miscarriage and never had a son. She goes to Ash and convinces him to remember his daughter. Mysterious NSA agents are after them. NYPD Det. Anne Pope (Alfre Woodard) investigates the mysterious non-disappearances.This is an intriguing premise. It starts as a psychological thriller. It turns into a sci-fi thriller. Julianne Moore keeps this very compelling. However, the movie never figures out how to explain the reasons for the disappearances. It is perfectly happy to have a lot of questions but they don't get answered. There is something more to do at the end of this movie and it leaves the audience hanging.

The Forgotten (2004): Dir: Joseph Ruben / Cast: Julianne Moore, Dominic West, Gary Sinise, Alfre Woodard, Anthony Edwards: Everything went well until about halfway through and victims began to flush into the sky by an unseen force. It regards the mark loved ones leave upon us and their memory. It stars Julianne Moore as a distressed woman who struggles with the loss of her son until her husband and shrink try to convince her that she never had a son. All records of her son have been vanquished leaving only a drunken father whose daughter died in the same plane crash to console in. Then comes a cat and mouse chase as Moore and Dominic West repeatedly escape death only to arrive at a laughable conclusion involving an alien experiment. This brought snickers and mockery from the audience. What director Joseph Ruben was getting at isn't known but he is backed by effective production values. Moore holds her own here investigating her loss and making strange discoveries. West also does well accompanying her in her search for answers. They manage to overcome the ridiculous ending that undoes everything. Gary Sinise as the shrink is obvious, and Alfre Woodard as a police woman is flat. Anthony Edwards plays her husband who claims she is as delusional as the screenwriter. What could have been a thriller examining parental emotion becomes a lame laugh fest best left forgotten. Score: 3 / 10

And also the incredulous.Enough plot holes to make a decent colander.One example being these missing kids had no other relatives, like grandparents, aunts, uncles, pals schoolteachers, to validate their existence?Enough car chases to fill in for the abysmal lack of dialogue.How come when movie characters are chased for huge distances involving climbing, jumping and marathoning, they never break a sweat or breathe hard? A great cast in an enormously flawed film.And the ending.Didn't make sense. Hollywoodland at its finest.2 out of 10.

She begins seeing a therapist who offers a startling diagnosis: her son never really existed, and all her memories of the child are products of her imagination. When Telly meets a man with a strangely similar story to tell about his lost child, she becomes convinced that her doctor is wrong and with all of her memories are intact but with no physical evidence that contradicts the claims of her husband and psychiatrist, she sets out in search for solid evidence of her son's existence.The film is very manipulative as well as very maddening and yet it's very entertaining.The presence of Moore gives it both a core and a heart.Without her,I would have given it a 1 out of 10 rating due to that fact that its premise grows too ridiculous to take seriously.With her,it deserves at least a 8 out of 10 rating.
