DansHauntedHouseful Excellent story! But it's difficult to tread into the weeds of the plot without unearthing major spoilers. However, a few key words in the title of the film provide an important clue to the secrets of this film: "end of time." Therefore, one can expect a film that deals with the supernatural while challenging the linear notion of time. And this expectation is met – quite brilliantly so! There are clever twists and turns throughout the film, so much so that at times I became lost in the plot. But never mind that – at the film's end I was completely satisfied. Besides, getting lost helps one to identify with the bewildered characters that are forced to confront the startling mysteries within this house – mysteries that are doled out; never allowing an understanding of "the big picture" until all is said and done.
view_and_review After watching REC and REC 2 I wanted to see what else foreign films had to offer. This movie held my interest for a while then it got confusing. Most movies that play with time, time lapsing and time travel usually run into some type of conundrum and this movie is no exception. The conundrums vary and I'd be giving away the farm if I explained the one in this movie. If I'm rating this movie on pure enjoyment, I wasn't that pleased. It got quite boring and it wasn't really original or creative. If I'm rating this on a curve because it's a foreign film then I'd give it a couple of extra stars.Truthfully, I think the movie was riddled with plot holes and too many unexplained events. They were throwing red herrings all over the place. I think they caught a case of trying to be too clever and muddled up the plot. Sometimes less is best.
ASouthernHorrorFan "The House At The End Of Time" is a atmospheric blended genre film both elevated and stylish. It combines both the science fiction concepts of time warp and temporal rift with elements of paranormal and haunting illusionism. The film offers a Gothic nightmare to rival any horror or fantasy created by some of Latin America's more notable directors/storytellers. The story revolves around a family near destitute, offered the opportunity to have a home with the help of the local government. Unfortunately the house comes at a high price that far reaches any monetary cost. It harbors a chilling secreted past that is dark and very disturbing. Framed more as a haunted dwelling, and attached to the chilling paranormal 11:11 theory, "The House At The End Of Time" is one of the creepiest and dramatic horror films that I have seen. One that actually creates deep, emotional suspense and melodrama while offering a more heartfelt connection between the viewer and the characters on screen. Hidalgo is brilliant in his direction of this truly horrific situation. The acting is an even-paced, suspenseful display of despair, tension, and downright creepy character development. One that in the end gives us a true "happy ending" fitting a nightmare. It is a dark, theatrical foray of relationships, second chances, and tragedy embraced by heavy, atmospheric paranormal scenarios that keep this doomed family on the edge of hopelessness. "The House At The End Of Time" is impressive, thought provoking and cerebral. The special effects used in "The House At The End Of Time" are a collection of instrumental sound effects classic to a Gothic ghost story, typical paranormal camera tricks, and stellar make-up effects that give you the total haunting illusion while masking the nightmare's true nature. A nature that lends more to quantum theories of time distortions like the ones I mentioned earlier- temporal rifts and time warps. The overall effectiveness of the styling and illusions used here are executed beautifully, keeping the story's heavy sorrowful overcast, the dark subject matter, and melodrama in near perfect balance from the film's beginning right up until the more pleasant ending. "The House At The End Of Time" is fantastical story both dark and disturbing that I believe all movie fans will enjoy, not just horror fans.
Gregory Horoski Shockingly good! Intricate lovely story, which accounts for the less than stellar ratings I imagine.Like many who are mocked "for reading" in today's world, story lovers are told "you think too much." We are entering the new "dark ages" of 30 second attention spans. Truly a haunted house classic that is very believable.Sure this story requires your attention, when did taking life seriously end? While we laugh ourselves into oblivion - the heathens scorch our earth. Wait... that sounds like it could make a good screenplay/story nay, takes too much thought, after all its just life.
