jesse garrett this movie is very touching i watched it and at the end i bawled my eyes out and i barely ever cry about anything but seeing David being innocent and him getting killed also his final meal wanting to be what he and his son ate for breakfast made me cry so hard it is a great movie and everyone should watch it young or old it is a very touching story i love the story myself and how he got in the situation he is in at the time is very interesting and when we saw that the Constance committed suicide and they blamed it on David is the part where i started crying like a baby i rated the movie a ten because of how good it was and if you are very emotional i don't suggest watching it but if you want to go ahead
bogdanoghina My main takeaway from this movie, less present in other comments, is the ultimate sacrifice of David for his credo. In fact, he is carefully planning his death penalty end… just to prove wrong the "theory" that was used against their fight against the death penalty: Whenever they were bringing into attention cases of innocent people that were sentenced to death, those people were saved after all, sometimes just on the edge… but none was actually killed. So he plans the "perfect NO-murder" and also the TOO-late discovery of the truth… Just to prove their point: INNOCENT PEOPLE CAN BE SENTENCED TO DEATH AND KILLED, before the truth is revealed.
angmac03 I have seen this movie many times over the last 10 years, and seeing it again tonight, being moved to heart wrenching tears at the end, I had to FINALLY make an official IMDb account and make my very first review. I am an IMDb addict, I scour it every time I watch a movie, and I always appreciate every day people's reviews. Most people say they write their first review about a movie they hate, but for me, it is this piece of genius storytelling that made me finally make the effort to register and review. The story is so completely original. The acting is nothing less than superb. Kevin is so classy and honesty so utterly compelling and believable. Laura Linney proves her commitment to the story, above and beyond where others might put their vanity first. But it is Kate Winslets performance that is the absolute clincher. Please make sure you watch this movie to the VERY end and I guarantee your heart will feel like it is ripped out of your chest. Quite easily in my top 5 movies of all time. And perhaps the best drama I have ever seen. Well done everyone involved in this film. Please do yourself a favor and watch this film, or if you have already, watch it again and again. Not often a truly compelling original storyline comes along like this.
AbhiMathews The death penalty is a contentious topic currently losing ground across the globe. Abolitionists continually fight to save the dignity every human deserves but don't always prove their point to the disbelievers. Although extreme in nature, this film theatrically depicts how there is so much unknown in this world; that life should not be up to chance. This movie has a bit of everything: romance, mystery, drama, politics are just some of the prevailing themes. With a constantly evolving plot and strong performances from Kevin Spacey and Kate Winslet, this movie will thrill through its entirety. This movie is deep. Whether it's pro- or anti-death penalty is a decision for the viewer since it provides detailed evidence for both platforms. The Life of David Gale is one that will make you think, and then think again. It's a film worthy of at least a watch and one that will appeal to all audiences.
