1920, rural Ireland. Anglo-Irish twins Rachel and Edward share a strange existence in their crumbling family estate. Each night, the property becomes the domain of a sinister presence (The Lodgers) which enforces three rules upon the twins: they must be in bed by midnight; they may not permit an outsider past the threshold; and if one attempts to escape, the life of the other is placed in jeopardy. When troubled war veteran Sean returns to the nearby village, he is immediately drawn to the mysterious Rachel, who in turn begins to break the rules set out by The Lodgers. The consequences pull Rachel into a deadly confrontation with her brother - and with the curse that haunts them.

Stefan Campbell An interesting concept that suffers from poor writing. Weird things happen without rhyme or reason and the audience is never given an explanation for anything. Minor conflicts in the movie happen for the sake of taking up time to bring it to an hour and a half and no resolutions are ever provided The acting isn't horrible, I guess.

Bob An Although maybe this film deserves more rating 7, I am giving 8 as I think the current rating is too low.This is a good film. It is not a horror, rather a mystery film with great setting - the house, village, park around the house. The actors - 3 main ones (brother and sister and sister's love interest) are really great in their roles and I must say they were really convincing!The opening lullaby is really haunting and those simple piano cords. It really gives a chilly beginning and somewhat sinister to the film, but, it is not really that it reveals the sinister horrors of the film, because, as I say, it is maybe 15% horror and 85% mystery.All in all, I recommend it. A good one in my opinion.

Claudio Carvalho In Ireland, in the 20´s, the twins Rachel (Charlotte Vega) and Edward (Bill Milner) live in a dilapidated manor in the estate that belongs to their family. They believe the place is haunted and follow three rules of survival: they must be in bed by midnight; they may not allow a stranger to cross the threshold; and they must stay together. When they are eighteen, their tutor and lawyer Bermingham (David Bradley) advises that they must sell the real estate since their trust fund is exhausted but Edward is reluctant to leave the property. When Rachel is flirted by the handicapped soldier Sean (Eugene Simon) that returned from the war to his family house at the nearby village, she feels a great attraction and breaks the rules imposed by The Lodgers with tragic consequences. "The Lodgers" is a melancholic Irish ghost story with a wonderful cinematography. The non-commercial story has ambiguous interpretation until the conclusion when the truth about the place and the twins is disclosed. The plot is developed at a slow pace and has no gore, and maybe this is the reason to have negative reviews. However it is worthwhile watching by fans of ghost stories. slimecity-38663 Im very fussy about horrors and like many from hellraiser to the descent to The Autopsy of Jane Doe. I dont usually like the watered types of pseudo horror for the masses like Woman in Black. But I did really like Crimson Peak and this movie is similar to that - a great historical setting and very atmospheric. well paced and great set design. It looked gritty & dark. Great acting and the sister was yum. the story is good too. Very good direction. Recommended if you like The Others.
