keelhaul-80856 The girl from Hell on Wheels, with the Indian tattoos on her chin, stars in this Australian flick. Not a bad horror film, considering I've seen a lot and it takes plenty to impress at this point. It could have been more spectacular, but for a low-budget Indie type film from another country, it delivers enough entertainment and irony to keep you happy.More could have been done with the basement dwellers, and I don't think you can pour hot liquid into a tiny hole in the head without scalding the person's face off and the guy holding him.The protagonist should have run into the night instead of up a tree. The dorky kid who dated the cop's goth daughter was pretty funny. This added a light reprieve to the other gory stuff.Overall, not a bad effort, in a world populated by tons of crappy horror films.
cathcatkate Well, A lot of people hate this film for some reasons like they found Lola (Robin McLeavy) annoying rather than a Psychologically crazy person and they describe the film as "lazy" but I can't help myself to love this film. But there is a minor problem about this film, the subplot between Holly and the goth girl. I don't know about what's the purpose of that subplot but that doesn't ruin the film for me I just can't figure out what's the purpose of the subplot. Also some people found that the film less gory but I think it has enough gore and violence. The atmosphere of the film really works on me too.
lukehammen I really do hope someone had as much fun making this, as I did watching it. The loved ones puts it's own spin on the teen horror cliché that has been made over and over again in the last fifteen years. From the moment the film begins, it only tells what you need to know; instead of dwelling on the characters relationships that are really just factors in the movie's later overall presentation. It does come to a rough start, however. Nothing that will take more than ten minutes of screen-time, but some segments regarding prom are unnecessary to say at the least (the best friend). Once it takes off, The loved ones is a triumph for it's genre. A horror movie can only be as good, if it's still a good movie when you're not scared. In this particular instance I was not, but instead I was baffled at the horror I was presented. The loved ones treats it's lead, Brent, as the source of the story; you the viewer sees what Brent sees, and that's where the story comes into it's own. It's fun, self-aware, and in some of it's best minutes of screen time, it was realistic. I give it a 8.6, rounding to a 9.
Irishchatter I've seen a lot of horror films and I swear, none so far was disgusting until I decided to watch this movie! It was very dark and hideous, it actually reminded me a bit of Carrie like how the girl Lola was denied from Brent on saying no to being his date for prom. It was very creepy, disturbing and destroying to know that her father got involved in her horrific actions. He must've sexually abused her as a child, no wonder she is messed up but if that was the case, then she should know how deeply wrong that trying to kill someone is cruel. I would love to know this girls back story in the film! Especially her poor mother, god what has they done to her?! I was very surprised to see there was no police in this but only a police car which made no sense to me! At least Brent survived and went back to Holly. Of course, Lola being killed for being a monster...
